Hello there!
Hello there!
Just wanted to say hi,
I'm currently the owner of an 07' STi looking to move onto a GSR...I'm a traitor I know, whatevs. I'm still in the research stages of things deciding pro's and con's of each year and all I know at this point is that I'm not willing to part with a manual transmission. I've looked at a few other cars (audi, infiniti, and a few others) but I just can't stop thinking about trying out an evo. Any input about the different years of GSR's or input from previous STI owners would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Never look back!

Also, I've been living under a rock because I didn't know the MR was no longer offered w/ a MT until a couple days ago
Yeah, I get that. I have a very good condition bone stock Evo IX SE with 65k miles... for one thing, I don't have any plans to sell it, but I'd want quite a bit for it if I did. The last time I was at the dealership (South Coast Mitsubishi, pretty popular within the community), the GSM who I've known for a while and is aware of my car is still surprised that it's in the condition it's in, and he asked his usual question ("Still stock?") and mentioned that he could easily sell my car for $26k, possibly more.
But the new ones are still very good cars, though there was a reason why I decided not to upgrade, as I felt my car was a bit more fun behind the wheel. But both models are still more entertaining to drive than an STI and much more responsive to mods. The only thing that I didn't like was that the Evo X stayed pretty much 98% the same throughout its six-year lifespan so far.
If you're going for a used Evo X, it will obviously depend on what kind of a deal you'd be getting, but being in the insurance industry, the 2010s and earlier are cheaper to insure, likely due to how the industry changed how they rated cars. From what I've seen, most companies charge higher rates for the 2011+ models than for the 2008 and 2010 models, even though they're basically the same. All that changed was the rating system.

Off topic: Do you mean south coast as in Costa Mesa/Newport Beach? I'm actually from CA myself, and since I'm moving back next year I'm thinking it would be wise to get an evo here since tax is dirt cheap.

I think that the only people who end up being unhappy with the Evo X are people who came from VIIIs and IXs, unless they were new to Evos in the beginning and expected it to be like a BMW inside or get GTI-like mileage.
I don't think I'll be disspointed although I do need to go test drive the X GSR, a 5 speed will take some getting used to but I just am not a fan of the X MR. It had a lot of pick up but just didnt give me 'the feeling' Lol.
This may be a helpful thread to read. I dont think I will ever go away from a IX but this is more suited to where you're at. Good luck with your choice!

Thanks for that!
I'm only looking to rid myself of the STI because I've built it to what I wanted and I honestly am bored with it, and am just looking to move on. I still own a lexus and thought about re-entering the world of luxury like I said in my OP but in the end I don't really care about luxury and I didn't like the looks of any high end AWD cars plus I don't think I'd enjoy modding as much. I can tell you that had I test drove the sti and the evo at the same time things would've been different.
The evo X GSR seems like its more suited to what I want at this point I guess and I plan on keeping it a while. I still have a lot of research to do on my end and its giving me a headache -_-

Quick question...
I tried figuring this out on my own but can't get a definite answer, why do some X's have different hoods than others? I've seen one with a single vent and the ones with 3 both GSR and MR.
