Looking at Lancer but have some questions

Ok so I'm looking at buying a OZ Lancer so but I have a few questions.

So my budget including mods is around 15 grand. I currently have around 6 grand saved up and I figure within the next couple of months I could have 8-9 grand. Which through my research should be enough to buy a decent used 02/03 OZ Lancer. Then sell my current car and then buy mods/turbo with that.

Basically my goal is to get around a 200whp (and if I were hitting 180/190 I don't think I would fret too much). I really like turbo/SC torque curves and also for the fact that aftermarket turbo wouldn't make my insurance go up. I like RWD/AWD configuration but I've lived with FWD long enough that I think I could deal with that.

Then buy up a RRM Turbo kit (non-intercooler). Then I can add in or fabricate my own intercooler later. Then add in sway bars and supension stuff. Wheels/Tires etc.

A few things that the Lancer that I want to know...
Is there are rear disc conversion kit?
I really like the idea of a turbo automatic I know this has been done, but is it reliable?
Also I would like to know more about the auto tranny, tranny code and what is the estimated maximmum hp/tq numbers?
What kind of boost levels are attainable on stock engine?
What is it that I hear about the pistons blowing on NOS? Is this a danger for turbo as well?
What kind of hp/tq numbers am I looking at on the RRM turbo with and without intercooler?
I see that RRM has a LSD is this possible to put in an automatic?
I've read of other companies making turbo kits for the Lancer OZ could I get some links to some more info?

If you want to play devil's advocate and convince me of another car... Other cars I've been considering...
Ford Focus SVT (add SC) (price is slightly on the high side though)
VW Golf/Jetta 2.0L engine (add Neuspeed SC)
Subaru Imprezza 2.5RS/TS (add turbo)

I'd go Imprezza, and you should PM Rock from RRM, he can answer most of your questions if not all of them. But what I can tell you is that our pistons are really not Nos ready.....getting forged pistons is highly recommended before going with Nos.

I'd have to second that. Getting to 200 whp on a Lancer is very difficult and requires internals in the engine. Also, it hasn't been done on an auto (current fastest auto setup is running I believe 6-7 psi). If you start with a used Impreza 2.5, you have 165 hp to start, awd, and limited slip differential. If I could have afforded a used car (0% interest actually made a new Lancer less expensive for me than a 2-3 year old Impreza) I would have gotten an Impreza. But if you really want to be a pioneer in auto Lancers with us, give Rob a call over at RRM.

I'd pick up a decient Scooby RS for like $7k and then drop a WRX engine in it... I hear it isn't too difficult.

I traded in my 02 2.5RS to get a Lancer. I hated that car. My lancer with header, intake, and exhaust is faster than the subaru, and more fun to drive.

Well I am quite the expert on subarus. My best friend has a 01 2.5RS with an added turbo which is a hella lot of fun. I helped him install the turbo kit so yea I know quite a bit about them.

OZevoVII yes I know 4 banger subaru engines use the same engine mounts very simple swap over. However, if you talk to hardcore Scoobie fans they all tell you they wish they'd gotten a 2.5RS and then turboed it. Remember STI is EJ25 engine turboed. My friend's turbo RS can beat pretty much any mildy modded WRX (WRX is EJ20 or 2.0L displacment FYI).

FYI I'm just saying 200 whp as a target I know it will probbably not be that high but if I got in the 180whp range I think that would be acceptable.

Also I am not completely stuck on the automatic I just think it is really cool. I've been doing research on many many cars and this is the second where I've seen an aftermarket turbo possible on auto tranny (2.5RS being the first as long as you don't go overboard and push over 6psi). What can I say I get lazy I know how to drive stick but the idea of not having to shift and what not is very appealing to me. I'm not looking for a hardcore street racing car just a fun street car where I can drive stupid and fast. Maybe a bit of autocross but I hear a lot of automatic people do decently on autocross.

I know that the Lancer's pistons are weak. But will they hold up to turbo (I don't plan on NOS)? Engine internals are rather a foriegn thing to me I've done turbos and exhaust work but while I know how internal engine stuff works I just don't know how to do it.

go with the lancer(..i'd prefer manual tho..) if youre lookin for horsepower, then id def go with the manual intercooled. youre lookin at some internal work too if you wanna put down some good times at the track. u mentioned NOS in your 1st post. thats where ur gonna run into problems. but hey its your car. u should be fine running 6 psi on your auto tranny. and as far as it goes with the turbos from other companies....stick with road race. theyve got a great reputation.

Newbie here! Sounds like you got things worked out pretty well. But if you are going for the Evo experience without the high price an 03 - 04 Ralliart will do better than an OZ Rally, because the engines in an Evo and Ralliart are identical, minus the intercooler and turbo mods. So it would give you the best bang for your buck check one out!

Identical? How can a 2.4 and a 2.0 be identical? Of course, there are many other differences between the two but the whole displacement thing kinda sticks out like a sore thumb.

Regarding the OZ: I have an '02 ES with an automatic tranny and it is horrible. One of the worst automatic transmissions, other than a Mustang's, that I have ever had the displeasure to drive.

it ain't that bad as soon as you upgrade your tranny from levelten.com... and besides the fact that auto's spool up faster than manuals.... that's a proven fact and i can debate to anyone on that... although you can usually go higher boosts on manuals....
