New Evo X owner

So I just got a 2014 evo x because it's my favorite car. And now I'm on this site and see so many people having different kinds of problems with their evo X's. I'm just like 'no way this car is having so many problems.' Lol I just refuse to accept it. BUT...just in case nothing bad happens to my car, I'd like to know which parts I should change out with aftermarket parts. I've been told I should change my clutch and get a stage 3 clutch so far because apparently the stock clutch sucks the D. If there are any evo experts OR other owners who went through problems and had them fixed for a good period of time and could offer me some advice on what I should get I'd really appreciate it. No I'm not a troller or a 16 year old kid. Someone thought I was in my last post.

I would keep your car stock as I'm sure it will be fine unless you plan to bounce off the rev limiter and dump the clutch all day long.

Go to any car forum and look up problems of any model car and you will find a grocery list of issues. No matter what car you buy there will always be people that have had issues with them. Some issue are common but that doesnt mean you will experience them.

The EVO is a good reliable car from what I've researched and understood. Just drive it and enjoy it and don't worry. Its a brand new car lol.

Mine is 5 years old and has had minor issues.

I'm a soon to be evo x owner. I'll be picking it up in about a week or so. What did you upgrade (or downgrade) from?

I've had mine since this past Christmas, no issues at all, I couldn't even imagine this car have any problems if everything under the hood is kept stock.

Have had my Evo X GSR since September. 3000 miles. Been great so far. Obviously it's still very new.

Remember that they've been making the X since '08, and they've sold "billyuns and billyuns" of 'em.
(Okay, that might be just a smidge exaggerated. )

But if ten people had trouble with, say, an HID going out, that's a pretty small percentage.

I just picked up my X MR on boxing day (Dec 26). (I haven't finished slogging through the manuals, yet. )
But I had my EVO 8 from mid 2003 until I replaced it with the X, and the only things I had to replace were an HID that went out, the battery, brake pads, oil and filter.
(Oh, and a right rear trailing arm when a cell phone zombie hanging in my blind spot bounced off my right rear wheel. (Perfect hit; zero body work, just hit the winter rim.))
I even managed to keep the original clutch, despite the way the hydraulic damper tended to make quick shifts abuse the clutch.

The thing about most Japanese cars is that they're set at the factory for reliability.
That means you can get a lot more performance out of them with aftermarket mods, but doing so costs you reliability.
Pushing the performance closer to the limit means parts wear faster.

That doesn't mean you can't tweak these cars, but if you do, you'll need to be more disciplined about routine maintenance.

I am a little worried about the X. Compared to the go-kart VIII, the X MR has a lot more "stuff" -- things that could go wrong.
(I already miss the rear wiper the VIII had.)

If you want to ensure reliability (and warranty), keep the car stock. I can only speak from experience but I had a 2012 X for about 15 months. I left it completely stock and never had an issue with it. Traded it in at around 8k miles.

I know have a 2013 X and modded it at around the 3k mile mark. It has been one small issue after another. Honestly if I had to do it again, I would have probably kept the mod money in my savings account and kept my car completely stock. I am still toying with the idea of reverting back to stock and selling off the parts to recoup some money.

Just like everyone else said. Sometimes you have lemons. It happens. Once you starting messing with the motor things can happen so be prepared.

I just hit a little past 30k on my '11. This isnt an "oem to aftermarket replacement" but one of the first things I did was zip-tie the fuel pressure vacuum line on the intake throttle body to make it snug. I'm not sure if this is applicable on a 2014. A buddy of mine also gave me a spare fuel pump relay. Off the top, those are the only things I can think of right now that are OEM and can fail at any time vs over time.

All the advise posted on this thread is good, the only thing I'd like to add is..... our cars dont like 1/4 tanks of gas. If your driving hard/taking turns, its better to be on a full tank. Fuel pickup is on the driver side. With fuel sloshing around, probability of fuel starvation is high.

It happened to me at an event and freaked me the hell out. WOT coming out of a left turn into the front straight... POP POP.. POP... black smoke... no power. Luckily a few seconds later power was back. Same thing happened to another evo except he lost a spark plug.

I know this doesnt address the "which parts I should change out with aftermarket parts" question but I hope it was informative.
