I purchased a used 2011 Lancer Ralliart back in August 2013, I'm coming up on my 30K maintenance and had a few ?s that I didn't find after searching the forum. If I missed the appropriate thread sorry in advance.

I commute and I've taken my RA to two different dealers, when I've asked each dealer what oil is put in it I've gotten different responses. I live in NC, commute back and forth between the Fayetteville and RDU areas, my car currently has 5W-20 Syn Blend in it.

I've contacted Mitsu Customer Service and they indicate that the car should have what is listed in the manual 5W-30. With the dealer confusion, I wanted to get the oil changes done myself so I know what exactly goes into the car.

I previously owned an '08 Corolla S and was using the following: Pennzoil 5W-30 Platinum Full Synthetic for Oil and the K&N Oil Filter with the Wrench Nut (White Filter).

I was thinking of putting using the same combo in my RA, but given the RA is turbo and oil will run hotter, trying to figure out what would be good to use.

I typically get the oil/filter from one of the local auto parts stores when they have oil change specials. I didn't have any problems with the Pennzoil Platinum Full Syn and K&N Filter in my Corolla and it kept my engine pretty clean.

I've read that Mobil 1 is good to use Oil & Filter, and AMSOIL is the best but very pricey for both Oil & Filter; also read that Castrol Edge should be alright as well?

Are there any RA owners out there that can provide some insight on the best or a recommended oil & filter to use for the RA. Mitsu Customer Support couldn't point me to a recommended oil & filter list to say which oils and filters would be good to use, besides saying use the Mitsu brand which iirc read that they weren't that good.

I use Valvoline VR1 Racing due to turbo and it is relatively inexpensive. Not sure if it comes in the right viscosity for you. I use 20W-50 year round here in Florida.

 

This time, I went with Mobil 1 5W30 and a Mobil 1 Oil Filter, will see how things are with this oil in it, after that may stick with Mobil 1 or trying something else.
