Post Basic Maintenance Items : Outlander Sport (ASX/RVR)

For Reference - OEM:
(Prices from Mitsu Dealer)

Air Filter (Part# ) - Denso MR968274, Made in Japan
$53.00

There's 13 "vane" elements, it's puffy&soft like a diaper with what appears "rim"/frame is made up of the same material (just extended to the edge) BUT compressed (tightly) and quite firm - like a stack of Benjamins.

NOTE: This filter is propitiatory and only fits the 2013 and newer airbox! The design of the airbox PREVENTS you from using aftermarket (Drop-in) Hi-Flow filters that (was compatible from) 2008-2012 Lancer/EVOs, As noted in below photo.

I ordered an OEM Busch cabin air filter on Amazon for under $10. It literally takes about 3 minutes to install. Remove glove box, old filter is right there. Remove it, replace with new, reinstall globe box, enjoy a cold beer. You don't even need a screw driver.

What's the recommended cabin air filter replacement interval?

That will HUGELY vary from person to person. It will depend on how often you use your HVAC and how the air is around your area. If you drive through dusty construction sites it will be a lot sooner than others, for example.

Honestly, it takes a matter of seconds to remove the "globe" box (whoops ) and check it. If it isn't still white then replace it. maintenance recommends it be replaced at 15k miles for regular maintenance schedule, and 7,500 miles under the "severe" maintenance schedule.

Just so you guys know, MZ690116 OEM oil filter works as well. I've tried and proven it. With our three other Mitsubishi's, I order 20 at a time, because they all use the same oil filter, and it's one of few things I ONLY use OEM. The MZ690116 is the short and fat version, versus the long and skinny version of the MZ690072. It's a preference in my opinion, but I do know when I order 20 at a time, it's only $4.55 per filter through www.mitsubishiparts.net

Ah...
Is that why there was a difference in Mobil 1's filter? It was kind of short & fat(ter) when compared to the Fram XG. But, they were both marked as fit for our O.Sports.

That would be the reason! I just can't believe how the oil filter comes off straight down. It took me longer cleaning up than doing the physical oil change itself!

Hey guys is there a recommended mileage or time to change the transmission fluid on the CVT's? This is my first CVT, still learning.

I don't have first-hand data to back it up, but I'll say around 25,000 miles would be a good start. And, I'm saying this based on the info one of our members (Outie11) have provided of his O.Sport's CVT >

At 28,877 miles my transmission started making the infamous whining noise at 3,000 RPM under load. I searched around and found that the fluid would likely solve the problem, and it did.

The recommended time to change the CVT fluid under the normal schedule is 60,000 Miles, and you really don't want to go much further than that. The severe schedule is 30,000 miles. Use the severe schedule if you live in high heat areas like AZ, SoCal, TX, NM, and so on. Use the severe schedule if you take a lot of multi-day road trips and such, idle a lot in traffic, or tow or carry heavy loads. I live in San Antonio where in the summer we have over 60+ days of 100* heat, and plenty of road trips in the thing.

I explain some of this in the link that mRVRsport provided, but you need to know that Mitsubishi dealers are supposed to go into the ECU with a tool and find out the CVT fluids degradation number. This number tells the techs when its actually time to change the CVT fluid because of the current condition of the fluid. Out of all the Mitsu dealers in the US, there are only TWO (2) confirmed dealers that use this number. The others are smelling the fluid for burned smells, which CVT fluid wont smell burned as there aren't as many internal clutches and solenoids as a conventional auto to make it smell that way. I say all of that becasue dealers have turned some customers away, saying they dont need the fluid change and not too long after, customers were experiencing the dreaded "Slow Down/ Trans Overheat" warning. DO NOT LET THE DEALER TURN YOU AWAY! Once you hit the mileage, get it done.

Alrighty.. just got back from the dealership.
Finally got around to getting my motor oil & filter changed!
@ 11,380-ish.

Yeah, yeah I know I should have done it sooner, but didn't have the time. Any how, it was covered under 1st FREE service (5qt synthetic oil, filter, crush washer), so all is good now.

Had them do tire rotation while they had it up on the lift, $20.

And, they did a CVI Report (Computerized Vehicle Inspection). Very interesting and detailed.
Everything is green (very good condition).
>>> I posted the hardcopies in Post#1

Oh, I did ask the service advisor to have the tech save my old oil filter. Later I'll dissect it and see what's in side. Keep you guys posted.

Take a look at how some of the oil filter comparison sites open up the filters, and then try to mimic them. I think most usually chop it in half with presumably a band saw, from end to end. That way you could get a good comparison of how the OEM filter is designed compared to aftermarket ones.

Oh, and of course, make sure to post pics!
