Automatic, but using the 3speed Man...
I have an automatic lancer (only stick they had was beighe color and my auto is silver
) Well for the last couple of days ive been missing around with the L, 2, 3 gears. I know my cars an auto, but i just like the way the car shifts and feels when i put it in L, than shift into 2, than shift into 3, i feel a nice punch in it compared to the D (drive) gear. My question is, can this hurt my engine because its an auto and im trying to drive it like its a stick? One thing i do notice is my gas drains faster when shifting than leaving it in D. I wish i got a stick, but i rather have a silver auto than a beige/brown stick!

yea i have an oz thats a stick. I love it wouldnt want to get an auto. to answer ur question though yes your gas will go down much faster if you shift it in that way because the way you are gettin that extra "punch" is because ur gettin the rpm's higher than the normal automatic transmission would get cuz its set to save gas, not to be quicker. and with that said its not GOOD for your engine to be revving higher it will wear ur internal parts much faster over the long run but its not gonna hurt it really
Slam shifting your auto trans will be loads of fun for about 5000 miles...then you'll notice that you're paying a lot of money in repairs. Keep it up, and once something goes wrong, you're warranty will have flown out the window.
1st and 2nd are for high torque applications, like slow moving through snow, or making a really sharp hill climb. 3rd is a good gear if you find the car up/down shifting between 3 and 4 a lot, like when you go up and down a series of hills.
My advice, put it in D, and leave it there. Playing around is all well and good, but what's better, a silver auto with a dropped trans, or a beige manual?

Arithmetic, I have a Auto Tranny also and I do the same thing now and again. As long as you aren't going to redline all the time it shouldn't hurt it but to be safe, call the dealer or stop by and talk to a mechanic. I wouldn't do it day in and day out but now and again should be okay IMO.
