I had a shop install a southbend stage 2 clutch it made it 456 miles then the clip failed.I tried to limp it back to the shop.It had trouble staying in gear. The clutch got so hot it welded itself to the flywheel.Has anybody had this happen before?

 

Yes, this happened to me on my mr2. Firction disc was down to the rivets and they did friction weld to the flywheel. I was trying to figure out how it could be starting in gear with the clutch pedal pushed in and the pressure plate disengaged, this is how..

I wouldn't have believed it if I had not experienced it directly but it happened several times, eventually the starter hitting it would knock it loose and I could drive the car double clutching and rev matching as it never seemed to completely disengage. Obviously its not smart to keep driving it like that but if you need the car and you can make it work, you are only wearing parts you are going to need to replace anyways at this point.
