When to buy first evo?
When to buy first evo?
Hello everyone. This is almost more of a general car buying/financial question, but I figured some of you guys have been in a similar situation so I'm curious to hear your input.
Anyways, I'm a 22y/o college student graduating this coming December. I currently drive a 91 civic (lol) with 150k miles that I've had since I was 16. I've wanted an evo since highschool and now the time has come where I need a new car and will soon have a real job (engineering) that can easily pay for it. I'll be entering my final semester with around $14k saved up from a couple internships and other low-paying jobs. I should be graduating with around $10k in subsidized student loan debt (interest free for now) that doesn't require a payment until June 2015.
My question is should I keep the civic (which may or may not make it through the winter) until I graduate or part with it and get an evo now? I'm also wondering if I would even get loan approvable from the bank as a student without a full time job.
Thanks

You asked for advice and here it is....
You have a vehicle that runs currently and no job, so I would strongly suggest you wait until after graduation and you have secured your first job with real pay to make the investment.
I am strongly suggesting this simply because you will be purchasing a car with high operating costs associated with the maintenance.
If you want to drive fast and furious style, then you will be looking at purchasing fuel, brakes, and tires frequently (and NONE of these are cheap!!).
The Evo is extremely fun and great to drive, yet COST $$$ to do this especially if you intend on having it as your everyday car.
Trust me, you are going to want to take every opportunity to experience this car and you are going t to have to have the funds available for the fun and pleasure to continue.
It is kind of like the difference between taking a woman that you have pursued for MONTHS to a dinner place that you can afford now just barely scrapping boy OR scheduling a dinner date months out to an extraordinary place that will impress her beyond measure.
Wait 6 more months.
By that time the new 2015 models will be out and the 2014 will be discounted.
(FYI 2015 and 2016 are the last two years this make and model will be available after 2016 they are coming out with an electric version that will look and sound extremely different).

thanks for the reply, that advice seems reasonable. The other thing is that my civic has been acting funny and may need replaced regardless. So I guess my follow up question would be what should I do if my civic dies, say, tomorrow? I cannot be without a car as I rely on it to get to class. Do I get another cheap econobox or take out an appropriate sized loan to get an Evo? I'd be looking to spend around $22-25k.

This. King Solomon couldn't have been more eloquent in a response to the OP.
