Going to look at this high milage evo x for $6,500

Tomorrow my dad's friend who is a mechanic is gonna show me an evo x for sale that has been owned by him and him only and wants to sell it for $6,500. What should I look for ? and do you guys think its a good deal ? its 120K miles daily driven

Also my dad told me he cares about his cars so thats a plus (maybe)

What do you guys think?

You didn't give much information about the car. Is it an MR or GSR? What year is it? NADA (which usually comes in high) has a 2008 Evo GSR with 120K miles valued at $20,775. They only took off $775 for the high mileage. So, I'd say its at least worth taking a look at it. If its banged up and beat up, you can always pass on it.

That deal sounds too good to be true, unless the condition is so far from normal wear and tear. I would have a third party mechanic check it out and get a compression test along with a leak down test and base my decision off of those results.

This thing has some problems, probably cosmetic and severe mechanical ones.

I'd be on the look out for everything.

If it runs and drives you should get it and dump the 15k your saving into it then you will have no problems

Or you could spend that same 21,500 on a car that actually runs and doesn't need major work.

It doesn't need major work as it is a family friend who used it to commute from and to work. Its just high miles because it is his DD

never been modded either

Please don't settle for a screwed up, salvaged, beat up and damaged Evo X. Your insurance will be high, you will regret it in the long run. Just get a used 2008 GSR for around 25K. Remember, when it comes to maintenance and modification, that adds up too. Something a lot of younger owners forget. Also, don't let the vehicle cost exceed half of your weekly income.

general rule of thumb thrown around in the mechanics world is that there is no such thing as a mechanics special. We work on dirty ugly rusty cars all day to not give a **** for our own cars at all. Our cars are in worse shape then any other cars on the road. You'll find that across the board. Be very leary. Its a mitsubishi, its bad quality on the little things such as starters alternators... Chances are something expensive will go soon because its such high miles and it will ruin your relationship with him because you think you bought a lemon... Your pick. Id stay away.
