New here. Buying an evo

Hi guys. So after a long time of trying to figure out what to build I've finally decided to buy my childhood dream car. One day i went down to the dealership to test drive a v8 car, i currently drive a 2002 Eclipse gt and wanted to know what a v8 felt like to see if i should get a car with one or drop one in a 240sx or something. The car i test drove was a v8 hemi 350hp automatic Dodge Challenger. It was a lot bigger then my little eclipse which i didn't like (of course tho my eclipse still fees big compared to my kia rio i used to have) and the car is so comfortable and insulated that you're just along for the ride and aren't a part of the whole driving experience ("opinions"). When I got back i was getting out of the car and then what sounded like a 272/S2 cammed EVO 8 drove into the place... My reaction was "is that for sale?".

From then on i have been on here pretty much every day researching this car.

tldr test drove Challenger, getting out of car saw modded EVO, here i am.

Hi and welcome!

Acceleration and torque (the fun) are one part of the driving experience, however, for many Evo owners it's the handling of an all wheel drive car designed to stick to the road. Test drive an Evo, I think you'll find the ride stiffer than your Eclipse but the steering and tracking is a different zip code.

Hi Bob. That's what i eventually plan on doing but unfortunately the only car dealer that has an evo 8/9 in all the way up in Portland and i don't want to go to a guy closer that's selling his rig and just drive it with no intent of buying it.

I want to know what your opinion is for buying a shell then all the parts and modding thee parts as i go, i'm pretty dead set on this car and buying it for 20k with mods isn't practical for me as i would be changing so many things also because i don't want to have a car payment so i've got more money to get stuff :P

If got space and time and know what your doing than yah buy a shell, but thats way more work. Just get one thats already running. Also you should drive one too, they are really fun to drive. I'm still searching for one after a year+ of searching. Its really hard to find one that hasn't been abused or asking crack prices.

What part of Oregon are you from?

Albany. It was the car i always wanted, i played probably several hundred hours in NFS Carbon just driving and modding my evo alone.

Yeah i was on craigslist every day looking for a gray/black evo 8/9 gsr ssl but came here and saw someone selling a shell and with the parts would be less then half of what i was looking at. I figure it would be a fun project and if it's already in pieces i wont be too afraid to take it apart too lol.

Only you can make that decision. There are many discussion here by members who have built cars from the wheels up.

As far as build or buy, I can't really help ya.
But if the time comes & there's one you're looking at up here in Portland, feel free to PM me &, if its not to far a drive, I'd be glad to check it out & tell you what I think to save you a possible wasted long drive. Good luck.
