Injen RD Cold Air Intake

I just put a Cold AIr Intake in my OZ. Its behind the drivers side bumper is the air filter. The install sheet said they recommend a splash gaurd. The website said to remove it during rain. It involves a lot of work to do that. Is it ok to leave it in? Will water get into the intake system?

From my understanding, there is very - very - little change of water ever 'hydrolock'ing an engine. Even AEM built a special guard to keep water out, but it takes more sucking pressure to swallow water than our engines will ever put out.

I saw this on some car show on Speedvision, where they immersed a CAI intake in a bucket of water, and then gunned the engine. Sure the water rose in the tube a little bit, but got nowhere near the engine.

My two cents...

better safe than sorry though. I have friends that have hydrolocked their engines from using CAI's. I agree it's difficult to do, but it could happen. AEM's bypass valve does work though.

Those damn CRX's are so low. There low to start , then you lower it and it's like a sled.

I'm debating getting the RRM CAI or getting the Ultimate Racing SRI. I'm more on the CAI side of things right now, I hate heat soak!

OK, so the car puts out 162 HP and can get 2800 lbs or metel to 60 mph in about 7 seconds. You think that the car won't suck up water?

The clip you saw was a vehicle equiped with a AEM bypass valve. This prevents hydrolocking. Every engine on the planet will hydrolock if the intake is fully submersed in water. Again, fully submersed. Rain will not affect a CAI. Only when you drive in deep water or large puddles will you have problems.

Are you timing with something like a g-tech? What are the before and after 0-60 times?

I'm debating getting a cai. My two main concerns are...

1. I live in upstate NY and it seems with one of these things attached, a good size puddle will get water in the engine or at least rune a sensor as refered to by a someone else in this thread.

2. Honestly, I just think $220 is a bit pricy for a intake, I'm not saying RRM doesn't make a quality product, but I would be much more convinced if it were $150.

Anyway I already have a K&N filter in place and that seems to add a bit of pull to the engine (about 5hp I figure). So till at least the first one of these is resolved I'll probably stay with what I got.

The only time they can void your warranty is if the part you installed is a direct
issue, like say you hydrolock your engine because of the CAI your basically screwed they will not cover the engine. Same with springs if your springs wreck your shocks then you can't get new shocks under warranty.

Does anyone know if the AEM bypass valve will work with the injen intake? I was reading somewhere that the bypass valve only works with an AEM intake (non V2) is this true?
