Help Me Pick the Evo X over the 2015 STi
With the EVO going out of production, and the newest STi just getting started, I have to question your notion that the STi will "hold its value better".
In your specific market, in the past, that may have been the case for a few model years.
Probably because there have been more arbitrary mods done to the EVOs, while the Scoobys would be flirting with ringland failure if modded.
And while a modded car is more fun, it's harder to resell. (Some dealers can't take a modded car in trade.)
So a stock STi might have had a higher trade-in value than a modded EVO -- but on private sale, you might see different results.
I haven't tried the new STi -- as you say, Scooby dealers don't sell on test drive performance, but on brochures and claims.
Same thing back in '03. The Scooby dealer wouldn't permit a test drive, the Mitsu dealer did.
Back then, one factor was that the Mitsu dealer had a number of modded ricers in their shop that they were working with.
While Mitsu itself doesn't encourage modding, some dealers are more friendly to it than others.
By contrast, in '03, the Scooby dealer couldn't point out the thermostat.
(Granted, it was the first year for it, but even the wrenches didn't know the mill.)
(But it was the first year for a USDM EVO, too.)
So you might want to shop the dealer to maintain it before choosing.
Look at all the threads on Scooby forums about people trying to fit EVO Recaros to their Scoobies.
The 2015 EVO drops the Recaros (due to airbag requirements), but the EVO has them through 2014.
While I hear the 2015 STi is a huge improvement over previous STis, Scooby has always been playing catch-up to the EVO.
They might get there, eventually, when they lose that mill --- because the EVO isn't going to be running away from them, anymore.
There wasn't anything wrong with my '03 EVO VIII. I only replaced it with a 2014 because I wanted an MR before they went out of production.
But I didn't compare the X to a Scooby. I compared it to a GTR and 911C4.
And then got the EVO X for half the price.
The EVO is still the sports car bargain of the decade.

Thank you very much that was very well said! I have always felt good about picking the Evo just the Sti interior has been so nice but don't plan on putting tons of miles on the car anyway!
I can't wait to get my hands on one I have been going around to get a 2015 but I really like the white but the blue has started to grow on me, and finding a Base GSR seems to be getting difficult for me in white.
Frankly that car screams rental as I hate the dash, dials and shifter location. If I had a Fu*kus RS I would take it back to enterprise or hertz. I cannot stand ford, the gauges and beeping sounds remind me of countless miles in a rental Fu*kus.
I'm coming from a 06 STI to 12 Evo X MR. I had my STI for 9 years before a sold it early this year. It was a great car and had no issues.. Ran a 20g with 344 WHP for 105k miles on stock motor and clutch without any issues. 07 STI onwards, pistons and tuning were changed which caused ringland failures on some cars.
Modding on STI is more expensive compared to EVO X. In stock form, EVO X handles way better and 15 STI might be closer to EVO now. STI engine is now 12 years old and I would not buy the STI right now since it needs to a better modern engine. Interior in STI is much better compared to EVO X but I like the Recaro's in the EVO.
