Been on Evom for some time and just now got an evo 8!

I looked for a while for an Evo 8/9 that was very close to stock and just got one. Flew out to WV and bought it brought it back to NY, my dad drove it the entire way, I am 21 and I want to take care of this car since I got it stock.

The only mods it has:

Slotted and drilled rotors
$30 ebay rear strut brace
Boost gauge
Greddy turbo timer
JVC radio

The only time I drove stick was 2 years ago when I went to Europe. I drove it yesterday and when for a drive today. so my problem is that the car jolts forwards when I put it in 1st and go from a stop and sometimes from from first to second. Am I not giving enough gas when starting to go and when switching gears? (I feel like the RPMs are dropping inbetween gear changes) What RPM range do you guys rev up to when going in first? My dad said that you shouldn't drive on first does this also apply to evo's. Also the engine stays very hot whenever I pop the hood whenever I was driving around but the temp gauge was was right below the half way mark on my dash, is this normal or is something wrong with my gauge on my dash(I rises normally as I warm up the car)

BTW I love hearing that turbo spool

stock clutch should be easy to pull out with, heavy duty clutches slightly harder, you might stall it a few times to get used to it.

The clutch is super heavy, drove my friends jetta gti and it literally felt nothing compared to my clutch. My friend sat in my evo and he couldn't believe how much force it took to press it in. I am guessing I just have an aftermarket clutch in it or its just an evo thing since this is the only evo I drove. Drove it today and only stalled it a couple times but I got the catching point down. I feel the RPMs drop when it engages just a little and I just give it a little throttle to about 1000-1500 RPMs and smoothly releasing the clutch through out the process of giving gas and it drives away nicely, I been trying to just listen to the engine while looking at the road and going and have been doing good

just get some more driver seat time, you'll be fine. just be safe because these things can get out from underneath you if you aren't careful.
