New Guy (Long Intro)

What's up you guys. My name is Anthony and I stay in SoCal. A little about me.. Well I've always been a huge Evo fanatic. I've always dreamed of owning an Evo IX ever since I was younger. Now I could say I'm finally in the market for one and hope to find the Evo that I've dreamed of owning. That particular car would be an Evo IX, graphite gray, SE, low mileage, stock (or tasteful mods), and not TOO abused. We all know why we want or own Evo's so I know any one I buy will have had its days where it was driven hard. I'm being pretty picky about which one I want but for a purchase this big, I don't mind the hunt or the waiting. I've always been around Mitsubishi cars. My mom owns a 2000 Galant, my current girlfriend also owns a 2000 Galant, my cousin used to own a 2013 Evo X and is actually planning on getting one back sometime soon, and I used to own a 1986 Starion. 2.6 liter turbo, RWD, 5 speed, man that car was fun to drive. I sold it because things came up and I thought it was going to a good home. Few months later I found out that the guy I sold it to was parting it out on the forum and junking it. So there went that.. Then I figured why not just shoot for an Evo this time like I've always wanted. So here I am. Here are some pics I screenshot off instagram of my old Starion so excuse the crappy quality. Can't wait to be on here with an Evo, hopefully soon!

Hi Anthony!

Welcome to Evom, your new home! Thank you for the introduction and your love of cars is obvious. There are still good Evolution's available and good luck with your hunt! Please followup when you get your car!!

Thanks for the welcome, Bob! Funny thing is, shortly after I made that post, I ended up finding an Evo! I went to go look at it and test drove it on Monday the 13th and took her home the following day! A 2006 Evo IX, graphite gray, SE, 53,000 miles. It has MR badges and at first I didn't want it because I wanted a 5 speed, but when I went to look at it, it was actually a 5 speed. So the only two ideas I can think of was that it was originally an MR SE model and was swapped over to a 5 speed, or it was originally an SE model with MR badges slapped on it for whatever reason. So I talked to the salesman and he said he did ask the previous owner about the badges and apparently the previous owner just wanted people to think it was an MR. Just to be sure, I called Mitsubishi and had them run the VIN to see, and the lady told me it's been a 5 speed all its life. So that was good news for me since I didn't want an MR but wanted an SE. It has all the SE goodies except the lip which is no big deal. Well, here she is! I'll take interior pics another day. It's in immaculate condition Looking forward to being part of the community!

Welcome, enjoy - that car used to be mine - it is a cream puff and well taken care of. Enjoy it Cheers e

Ps- that car is an SE - the person before me like the MR surround and badges. It was a cosmetic thing. Me personally I didn't care either way so I just left them there.

I was hoping the previous owner would be on this forum and recognize it. Thanks man! It is well taken care of. This one definitely stood out from other Evo's I looked at while I was shopping around for one. Also, I knew it was an SE model but I couldn't tell at first if it was originally an MRSE swapped to a 5 speed or an SE with the MR badge and surround added on. After calling Mitsu, they confirmed it was always a 5 speed and you just confirmed it too so now I have even more piece of mind She went to a good home, I'm going to take good care of her.

Thanks bro! I do have a lot of plans for it, both performance and cosmetic wise. However, for now I'm just going to focus on maintenance. It needs tires, 60k service is less than 7,000 miles away, and I took it to Road Race (great place and people btw) and had a compression test done. I don't plan to start modding until next year anyways. I want to get used to the car first and enjoy the current power it has. It already came with a greddy ti-c catback.

One of the guys told me if I plan to do heavy mods then I should have that fixed. They said it's most likely the top end, not the bottom end so they mentioned getting a valve job done. I'm looking into doing that next year but I'm sure a few basic bolt ons should be okay, right? They said I should be fine for now as long as I don't go too crazy with mods. I don't plan to start modding until next year anyways. I want to get used to the car first and enjoy the current power it has. It already came with a greddy ti-c catback.
I know what you mean regarding maintenance. I'm starting to get that mod itch, but want to take full advantage and enjoy the car (with warranty) Either way, it sounds like you're on the right path, take care of your car and it'll definitely take care of you.

Yeah same here, it's very tempting! But I rather know I went through all the maintenance first so when I do start to mod, I have a healthy platform Thanks bro!
