Hello everyone, I currently own a 2000 LS1 camaro 6 speed with some mild bolt ons. (Intake/catback, MSD ignition, c4 zr1s and 275 nitto DRS, Polyurethane motor/tranny mounts and a few more minor things) The car has 85k miles and runs amazingly I've always serviced it with the best synthetics and its always garaged. But the camaro is just not safe in colorado winters, I live up in the mountains also so if I can even get it out of my driveway its a miracle. And I cant Really afford more than one vehicle but I dont want to sacrifice performance and fun that I have in the camaro.
I am thinking about trading the camaro in on a 2004 evo 8 with intake and exhaust. I really enjoy riding in boosted cars and the to be honest the car that had me really hooked on speed before I got into ls's was my friends evo i believe it was a FP red setup I just remember his low 11 second time slips at this elevation. And I obviously really need the all wheel drive. My question is do you think I will find the evo as enjoyable or more than the camaro? Performance is also a very big matter do you think the evo will be able to impress me coming from the camaro?
Thank you very much for any input. Really looking forward to joining the family.

Evo for sure. F Body and Evo weight about the same so straight line speed you can get an idea of that way. Basic bolt ons and tune will put the Evo at more power than you are at now in the Camaro and you'll get much better handling to go along with it... Especially considering you won't need to run drag radials to be able to launch it and have traction. You live in a cold climate also. That makes the traction thing even more of an advantage.
I've driven both a decent bit by the way. I'm not a muscle or import car guy and just a car guy. I've owned both and have friends with all different cars that I drive and I think the Evo is better suited to your situation. I had a bolt on and tune 2011 Mustang GT before my Evo and love the Evo. When I first got the Evo it was a mild tune and only around the same straight line performance as the Mustang but I enjoyed the handling of the Evo so much it was still much more fun. After upping the power a bit and getting more comfortable driving the Evo I can still goof off and drift around and pull out sideways like in the Mustang too.

Check out ColoradoEvo.com for some local deals. There's also a facebook page. You will definitely love the Evo, shredding these roads in Colorado is too much fun. I have winter tires for my Evo, and I can't wait to throw them on and enjoy the snow!
After a few turns in the Evo, you will wonder how you dealt with the f-body. It's a bit of a dinosaur anyway, but great for straight line speed, IMO.
If you have interests other than drag racing, the Evo is a better car in every way.

Do it. I have a 2006 Evo 9 SE. I got a wild hair up my *** and parted it out and I was going to sell it, but I just couldn't do it. I know I would miss it too much. Now my evo is all stock except for coilovers and I'm still happy
Thank you all for the reply's
The handling definitely sounds like a Major upside especially due to the fact that I live up a stretch of windy roads. Also for straight line performance Shouldn't the evo be faster or as fast as my camaro is now at elevation due to DA? I have scouted out a few online and plan to test drive this weekend but In particular I have a white evo 8 in mind with just intake and exhaust according to dealer description. Thank you for suggesting the Colorado evo page I wasn't even aware it existed. I feel like id truly enjoy not being limited by weather in the winter. Also I hope I wont miss any raw feeling coming from an ls1 fbody. How hard would it be to reach say 400-450 awhp with the evo? would it be as easy as a good tune and upping the boost? possibly throwing some e85 in the mix?

your Camaro will always be faster in a straight line stock and once you started modifying either. you need what? tires? maybe gears to run 10s? a 50-shot? RWD will always be king of drag racing, period.
why anyone would build one of the world's best-handling cars for drag racing is absolutely beyond me anyway, but that's besides the point. LOL

400 to 450? yes with mods, fp red and E85 etc, lots of threads in the tuners page, maybe get standard first then build up with mods later, get used to the car its different from a lazy v8 donk, you can do track days too and auto x, not just drags, have alot of fun more then just cruising and burn outs
Burnouts are fun but really just a waste of expensive tires in my opinion ( unless actually racing )
and its not that I want to build the car for drag racing, but its very important to me the car performs in that area as well. I want a good all around street car, that I can drive to and from the autox and drag racing tracks without a problem and still dust people on the way. I want to be able to take the car up the mountain or for a road trip if need be. It seems that 400 wheel isnt to much hassle in the evo considering I wont even need a turbo upgrade. I am heading to denver saturday morning to test drive an 04 evo 8 white 77k miles with wheels intake and exhaust I am hoping to fall in love with it as much as I think i will. I just hope the fun factor is at or above the camaro for me, the fact that I will be able to drive the evo year round is such a big factor in that already.. I haven't snow drifted in ages. And LOL yeah the catfish is pretty hilarious in the snow. I remember the first day I tried to pull it out of my garage and got stuck in a couple inches of snow. Last time I drove it in the winter. But its definitely no joke on the dry pavement.
