Day one,
Drove down to long island to test drive and evaluate the car with my 2 friends. I liked it and knocked it down literally 2.5k. She gave me copies of necessary papers for a loan agreement. After that we went in chinatown mall to eat.
Day two,
I was planning to finish the deal today. Early in the morning I went to finalize my loan papers I was waiting for an email to digitally sign the papers. They scanned and faxed over the papers, that the owner gave me, to the loan facility. He told me to call half an hour later to see if they were received and to quicken the process. So I called and the man told me all the papers were received and verified my loan amount and duration.
Now I had to catch the ferry at 10:30 am. Right before I left home I received the loan email. I open and checked the papers to see that the vin didn't match the vin the owner's papers said. It was the vin of the previous vehicle I quoted on. And so I called them to change it. Now I really had to rush to the ferry. 20 minutes into the ferry ride, I received the loan papers via email to digitally. Find out that they don't allow mobile signatures awesome. So I tell the seller to pick me up and send me to the library. I get it signed, we go to the bank. I call the loan office and they tell me that the money will process before 5 pm today and the seller told me she is only accepting a certified bank check. I was thinking a personal check would work so I came with one signed and ready, guess not.
Start of the waiting game. She was picked up from work for an hour to make this deal, so she had to go back. now I was waiting from 12 pm to 5 pm constantly refreshing the mobile bank app to see if the funds show up in my account so that I can go to the bank to get a certified bank check. 30 minutes of waiting passed by, my battery was running low, so I went to a cvs and had the cashier charge my phone. Charged enough to get through the day. Rest of the day was spent visiting every store in the port Jefferson ferry area. There was atleast 20 stores. Nothing I really found interesting except maybe the tea shop. I got a tea that smelled like gummy bears. Funds came in, at 3:52 pm. Bank closed at 4 pm. I didn't make it in time, took the ferry home with lots of time wasted feeling like dried **** on a stick
Day three,
Worked my job. Noticed the funds processed over night. Went to the bank during lunch to get a certified bank check. Left early at 3 pm to make the 4:45pm ferry next ride was 6:15pm. Made it. Landed 6:00pm, the owner's boyfriend was waiting in the ferry parking lot for me. It was dark, slightly drizzling.
I met him, we swapped papers and check. He said alright check looks legit, time to take off the license plate. The bolts were rusted. I luckily brought my power tool gun, but only a flat head tip... The bolts was a screw driver head. Keeping in mind I wanted to make the 6:15 pm back, not happening. We tried to use my flat head tip on the screws, didn't work. So he went to cvs to buy a + screw driver. Came back, tried, the bolts were stripped. So we started to try to warp and distort the plate to pull off. Didn't work. He called the owner and she said she wouldnt let me drive off with the plate on. I would have mailed it back, she didn't trust me. He went back to cvs to buy pliers. He had a knife as well and tried to combat knife cut it (idiot), so we plied and cut. Didn't work. I noticed the pliers had teeth that were close the the joint. So I pushed the plier against the plate and snipped, it pierced the plate!
Here we were in the dark with his jeep headlights on pointed at the car. Both of us kneeing on the wet parking lot ground, shinning my phone as a flash light, tearing at a read license plate in the public ferry parking lot. I was paranoid. We must have snipped and tore probably 30 times to get plate off. It was done, as we were both bleeding from the sharp edges of the license plate. 7:10pm trade complete. I sit in my car, I wasn't sure how I was feeling at this point... Happy, scared, relieved.
I had CT plates I took off my mom's car. And I had no where to mount it. The front had no license plate mount and the rear had two stripped and rusted bolts. At this point I also noticed that her bf(jackass) left his combat knife on the ground where we kneeled. Luckily the owner had white garbage glad bags that had the red plastic handles. They were used to protect the seats when she also included the stock wheels with the deal. I took the red strip and tied the plate to the front, genius. ******* calls me and asked if I saw his knife, I said yea you left it here, I'll leave it on the ground, ok I'll come grab it after he said.
But It was time to board the ferry, I was in a rush to feel safe so I forgot to leave it on the ground(on purpose). I went towards the ferry about 1/4 mule away, took an illegal left turn over solid stripped road to the ferry entrance on the left side of the road. The guy behind yelled out *** hole!, the police officer at the ferry booth heard. I saw him notice me, I quickly drove away and by quickly I mean ****ing quick.
I went around the block and parked somewhere secluded. Went back to the ferry just as they were boarding vehicles 5 minutes before. The police officer was still there, I hoped he was out looking for me. I drove up and he spotted me. He said hold on, I said **** my life in my head. License registration, I gave him my license and pretended to reach for my registration. I gave him the previous owner's registration. He asked what state is the car is registered I said ct. Then why is the registration in NY and you have a CT plate I'm ****ed I thought, I told him the story. I just bought the car and I need to get it over to ct to registration. Ok he said give me your title and wait here.
I waited 2 minutes , got out if the car and looked up at the dark gloomy sky. And thought that it was over, this car is getting impounded, I'm going to get a huge finee - sir turn your car around facing the ferry, I'm just going to give you a ticket and not do anything about the car issue. I said really? Thank you sir I'll gladly take the ticket. And so I drove my car on to the ferry. Great success. Just as I parked ******* called me and asked about the knife, he said I drove all the way back here (20 minutes) and it isn't here. I told him I forgot to leave it and I'd send it via mail (definitely not going to he was the main reason I had to return ****ing a 3rd day to get the deal done. $18 per person ferry ticket and $56 car + person).
There I was shaking the whole ride, I didn't even know how or why I made it, well I do but my mind was blown. But I was safe, I was paranoid I called my friend to escort me home from the ferry to home. Cause well the car was un registered. So I told him to drive behind to cover the half ripped of license plate. And I drove her home. If you saw the expression of my face you'd think I was nuts, happy, angry, scared, and most of all relieved.
The End,
Didn't give his knife back because they sold me the car with an empty tank

Wow.
That whole story sounds sketchy as all hell. I've sold and bought 20+ cars over my lifetime and nothing came close to that.
