Evo X - new owner, unsure of direction.

I've purchased an evo X a few months back. I've always loved the evo and purchased one when they announced the final edition.

I am a long time DSMer and have owned my 1996 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD for around a decade. I put mild bolt ons and it still drives strong at 185,000 miles (purchased it at 114,000 miles). I did everything including tuning myself on the Talon.

Now I own this evo and I'm wondering what is it supposed to be. At first I was like keep it stock then I got an HKS super turbo exhaust and so it has that on there. In the past I always modified just because I was interested. I don't go to the track and I'm happy with the cars performance overall, however, I still find myself looking at car parts for my evo. I think I just like to mod to learn and like to feel the difference of the car before and after. In other words - I modify just because.

That being said, this car is different than the talon and it leaves me trying to decide where to take it. Essentially I have a good job with disposable income and no kids so I don't have a tight budget or anything. Anyhow just introducing myself with some info. I'll be posting more once I find my way.

You really should search for answers to these questions, it's been answered a million times. At this point in time, there is tons of information on this forum about the correct way to modify evos.

To directly answer your question.

You only need a retune when adding parts that change airflow. Like turbo, intake, cams, exhaust, etc.

The tune will not disappear if you took the battery out of the car.

I was more being conversational. I am not looking for specific information on how to correctly build the car. I thought newbie forum would be a pretty safe bet for this kind of post however I did remove the question to make it just an introduction.

Typically, if anything other than a drop-in air filter or cat-back exhaust is modified you need to get a tune.

If you modify anything other than those two things after already having a tune, a re-tune is necessary.

And once you have a tune, it acts as the base "program" on the ECU, so it's no different from how the car was before tuning. Dead battery or completely tearing down the car and re-assembling does not affect it.
