Why should I get an EVO 8?
Why should I get an EVO 8?
Guys,
I want to get your input. I've been reading lots of threads on this forum and as a potential buyer I am a bit troubled at some of the owner's complaints about the car. Let me list some of the complaints (I just searched the threads):
1. Clutch running out

2. Transmission running out

3. Poor dealer service and warranty coverage
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...aler+complaint
4. Dealer spying on local tracks to red flag racers on warranty repair
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ghlight=spying
5. Paint chipping after a few thousand miles on front and side door secondary to misalignment of driver side door (~70% of respondents voting "yes" they have chips
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ight=complaint
6. Stalling issues
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...aler+complaint
I am a big fan of the Evo 8. As someone who reads a lot on this forum I know there are a lot of happy car owners out there but there seems to be some issues with the EVO. Would anyone like to add their input just on the issues above? I realize every car manufacturer have their duds and please no flames. Thanks.

I'm at 10K and other than the paint chips I don't have any of these problems. I don't race it so I don't worry about that. If you do race any car then simply take responsibility for that racing as far as your wear/warranty is concerned.
Let me know if you do find a car that is perfect and doesn't break for anyone of the owners regardless of how badly they treat the car. I think you'll find people here and on any auto forum that have NO problems and some that have major problems. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Your always going to hear the bad things, they are they first to post about them(not saying its a bad thing). You'll rarely see anyone post anything "good" about the EVO. The majority of the EVO's are fine. I have 6800 miles on mine and no problems.
Yep, if you drive it like you stole it then your going to have to pay.
Also, there are some nit-picky people here since this is a car for the enthusiast.
All I know is @ 5000 miles, she is looking great (one paint chip), going fast, and not giving me any problems.

I agree with wmcorcor.. The car is built just as well, if not better, than any other car. The difference being this is a performance vehicle and most people drive/treat them very rough. Test drive the car for a good distance and judge for yourself if you like it. Don't concern yourself with the issues others are experiencing; you may not experience any of them! I've been very lucky and have not had any of these issues. We'll see in a few thousand more miles, but so far the car feels solid and performs like a monster (which is why I, and most of the people on this board, purchased it). If you want a performance vehicle you will have to deal with the potential for repairs/damage. But if you enjoy driving the vehicle every time you get behnig the wheel these issue become secondary. -my $0.02.
Best of luck in your decision!!

I would still get the evo after reading those threads. It's usually the driver who ****s things up, then they make it sound as if it a factory problem Mitsubishi never fixed. The EVO is a solid car

Do you really want to be talked out of buying the evo?
Yeah, there seem to be some issues -- to me the most serious one is the warranty one because it affects all the others. However, it is very hard to judge it based on reading internet forums.
Personally, I own a evo with about 5.5k miles. Stock clutch and tranny are fine (as they should be). I don't have any issues with stalling and the only paint chip is in the front from a nice big rock (can't blame
for that). I can't make a comment about warranty or dealer service since I haven't had a reason to use either.
Take one out for a test drive, compare it to your other choice(s) and decide if it's worth the money. Do keep in mind what you're buying -- it's not a quiet luxury car, nor is it fuel efficient. It is fast and has amazing handling. It's not cheap unless you compare it to something that will match the performance. If it's the car for you, buy it and never look back. If it's not, buy the car that is.

All cars have these types of problems, atleast ones that have this kind of power output capability. There is always one or two bad apples out the bunch. No problems with mine , except keeping her under the speed limit. You only hear of the bad thing and rarely see the goods. The Evo is in the 10's now and ppl runing around with 500+hp on the stock tranny, I would like you to show me many cars that can achieve this feat for so little dollar.

Decide for yourself... If any of the aformentioned issues distresses you then this car isn't for you. The Evo is my play car and before it I had a z06 and before that a sucession of cobras, wrx, etc...
Each of those cars you could malign based on what you read on the web... My 01 z06 had oil consumption issues, the 99 cobra I had needed the "fix"... every car has issues and every performance car has more issues.
Now as far as the warranty goes I have taken my care for some minor issues and had no problems. That said if I turn the boost up to 25lbs and do 7000 rpm dumps at the track I have no expectation that a melted piston or quivering clutch would be covered. I think what you see is people expecting the dealer to pick up where thier common sense leaves off... There also seems to be alot of people that buy this car that then cannot afford to take care of it properly...
my .02 cents

I have 21k on my EVO and still love it. Yes I did have replace the clutch, but It was my own fault. I took it to the track and would slip the heck out of it to get a really good launch.
As far as other issues go I have not had one. The car has been rock solid. I think the complaints are comming from a vocal minority. All the Evo owners that I have met in person are very happy with their car.

like others say... the few loud people is what you hear... evo 8 is a great car.. unfortunately some people are complainers... you WILL get noise when breaking... you will get rattles because the chassis is so stiff... you will get low gas milage... but hey lets look at the brighter side.... evo engine is bulletproof... clutch is soft but the tranny is made to last... 0-60 in high 4 seconds... no car can beat its handling/braking/dragging ability and still have a price tag under 50k.... and the evo loves to be modded...
