What kind of windshield wiper fluid to put in turbo intercooler?

I called the dealer and he told me that any kind of windshield wiper fluid can go in to cool the turbo intercooler. But he said any fluid with a high concentration of alcohol in it is better. He said to go the Honda dealership and their wiper fluid has a high alcohol content is the best to use in the EVO. So basically what is the best kind of wiper fluid to put in the turbo intercooler?

any should be fine, i wouldnt get the ice melter junk or anything like that, just a plain jaine wiper fluid, anything usually contains some type of methanol...you can use water too, doesnt matter.

Really you can use water? I didn't know that. Should the water be distilled or does it matter?

shouldnt matter, some people say junk about regular tap water messing up with the intercooler finish, but i dont think so...you wash your car dont you?? lol...but yeah, u can use either...washer fluid may have the better effect though since it contains methanol which evaporates quicker, thats why alcohol feels cold to the touch on your skin.

Hey guys,

Would a reason to use distilled water be that tap water could have impurities that clog up the lines? For example iron deposits or whatever. Maybe it's a non-issue. Obviously don't use water in the winter though if it gets below freezing, heh.

Take care,

Used tap water for 4 years with my E6 and it clogged up the lines....

A chemistry dude told me to put vinegar in the mixture..... stops that clogging from happening. Thats what i do now.

Tap water will eventually mess up the lines. Distilled will not. The reason for the washer fluid is to avoid freezing and cracking the tank per the Mitsu rep. If you're far south like we are distilled is just as good.

Tap water will calcify your lines and your intercooler fins over time. Tap water has a high mineral content and is hard in most parts of the country. Look what happens to your electric coffee maker.

Use soft water if you have a system in your house or distilled or deionized water. We don't freeze here so I run straight water. I have a reverse osmosis/deionizer 5 stage purifier that makes laboratory grade pure water even cleaner that bottled water that I use to make purified water for my coral reef tank.

Use clear standard washer fluid. Won't mess up your lines or dye your IC blue.

Another good reason not to use water... in the winter it will freeze, expand, and probably crack your lines and resivoir. In other words, not a good thing. Now as far as all you people that live down south where it never gets below freezing, go for it.
