Hey all.
I just bought a 2013 Ralliart Lancer, picked it up Tuesday, only had 52,678km's on the clock, which I thought was really good.
Has had all it's log book services, but as far as I'm aware it's only been Mitsubishi's log book service so no SST service.
Not have any problems with the transmissions, but I'm well aware of the problems associated with it, so I put away $9,000 for a just in case moment.
But because I bought it from a used car dealer I get a 3 month/5000km's warranty on mechanical parts like transmission, engine etc.
On Monday it's booked in for a massive service, all fluids, filters as well as the SST which includes replacing the internal filter and upgrading the billet bore plug to a stainless steel one..
I've tossed up the idea of replacing the shift fork and clutch, but from what I've been reading it's best to stick with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach, plus I have 3 months/5000km's that it's covered under warranty, so I'm guessing it's best to wait it out.
I'm not a heavy driver like some of you guys, 42, kids usually in the back, no track days, no real spirited driving, I usually drive around in Normal-Manual mode, but when I want to show off to a mate/family member who's never been in one I'll drop it into sport-manual give it a boot, but that's very rarely.
Mainly bought the car for running around but with the joys of the extra power when needed, plus it's cheaper rego than a 6cyl car..
In saying that I now have this real itch to start modifying this beast, so does the wife, she's already talking about changing the exhaust...
So I've picked the car up, holy ***** S-Sport mode is angry, there little to no clutch slip, sifting between 1 - 2 - 3 actually now has wheel spin in all 3 gears when taking off from a stop.
Not the best to just be driving around town with, it's a little rough, feels like a quick manual gear shift, guessing that's normal 3 of the guys took it for a spin to verify, triple checking.
They checked all the transmission modes which they agreed are all fine.
Found something I didn't notice nor did the tyre place I got a wheel balance done at, I have 4 different branded tyres, yep clearly the dealer stuck whatever on to pass a roadworthy.
I was told this is not good at all for the AWD system, so I have it booked in at a different tyre place for 4 brand new Michelin tyres.
I don't even get wheel spin in 3rd with my Evo 10 at 640whp so... not sure what is going on there.
Are you actually getting spin, a chirp or is the transmission slipping?
Road was slightly wet yesterday, tried again today, only going from first to second I get a little tyre slip.
Road looked dry, but we've had a lot of rain lately so it could of been a little damp when I gave it some or I need new tyres which is happening tomorrow anyway, 4 different brands of tyres were on the car, didn't even notice it, the guys said that is not good for the AWD system
Still very aggressive gear changing kind of like dropping the clutch in a true manual with each gear change until you change from 3rd to 4th everything after 4th is smooth, but I've read around here that's normal.
Just cruising around is done in sport manual, reduced slipping, smoother ride, don't floor it, usually 1/2 acceleration when needing to put out in traffic.
I don't mind if anyone wants to give me pointers on the sst, the service guys gave me a huge print out of the do's and don'ts, with the whole spirited driving should be done in s-sport mode, as well as idling in heavy traffic using neutral.
