Howdy
I say somewhere in the 400hp range. Then if I want to send it to the moon, forge bottom, ported heads, bigger turbo, and maybe a trans swap to the 5 speed or maybe I’ll see what a built 6 speed can do. The car is going to be a daily for a while, huge hp 400< isn’t something I’m looking for atm, maybe some time later

That’s pretty much it

In all seriousness, if you buy an Evo with the intent on making money from it, you probably won't get to enjoy it, due to paranoia of de-valuing it in some way, or possibly be disappointed that it didn't pan out how you planned. Unless you want a garage queen. In that case, buy the lowest-mileage IX you can and mothball it in the garage for about 10 years.

Also, the 6spd is fine if not doing any crazy road racing, etc. and you keep the torque down.
I'd really, really, really advise against letting that be a reason. I'd never buy a car as an investment, but that's just me. Especially a mass-produced Japanese sedan.

Fellas, I have decided that I will be looking for an evo 8, either the MR or the regular 8. I just can't justify dropping so much for a 9. I appreciate everybody's help, feedback, and replies. I will keep this thread updated. Until then, I hope to see y'all on the road and myself in an evo 8 in a couple of months from now. Thank you!

Back then when I was looking, my choices were 9 first and 8MR second but not 8 GSR because I don't want to mod heavily and only targeting 300-400whp. So then just a matter of which one I could get at better condition at most reasonable price, ended up I got a 9 GSR.
Yeah, unique parts on its own not shared by other Evos, like longer plugs and different cams and cam gear which might be more difficult to source. That mivec bolt also can be a pain if not installed with care ending up ruining it. I changed mine when I changed to Greddy cams cuz it was almost ruined by the previous installer, luckily could still open it.
Then there's a case of Mivec failing on my tuner highly modded Evo 9 ending up damaging valves etc. He then deactivated it for safety after he rebuilt it, basically making it like an 8 engine.

I got the chance to drive the EvoX. God, I love the way it handled. I love the way it just grips onto the road, the way the big brembo brakes clamp down and make the car brake really well. I love how quick it is off a stop. Man I really love the way the Evo X handles, it is really light on its feet. I must test drive a 8/9 sometime soon.
