Howdy

Hello everybody! I am new to the evo forums. I am from Texas, based in the Houston area. I currently drive an 05 6 speed Corvette and I’m looking for a daily. I’ve been looking for a bigger car that allows seating for more people and is also fun to drive. I would love to purchase an evo as a daily but with the plans to one day mod it. Whether it be 9 or 10, it is a tough decision but something I have been debating for a while now. I would love to have an evo as an addition to the current garage. I hope all is well with everybody and I hope to see everybody around

Excellent / Thanks for joining us & posting @Datgumify

The X would be a much better daily vs the 8 or 9. Let us know if this idea gets even more serious

Any questions, let me know

Cheers, Joe

^ I second that. Especially if safety is any concern to you. And this is coming from a 9 owner. Get the X if you plan to daily it

Thinking about getting an evo...

Howdy, I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death in the forums by now. I've been thinking about getting myself an evo in the near future, probably around the time summer rolls around. I have been looking at both the X, 9/8. Hear me out, Which car is the better buy today in 2021? As for what I am looking to get out of the car, I would like to get the most power out of it without having to modify the bottom end. I would like to do e85, bolt ons, aiming for high 300s, low 400s. I love the styling of both the X and the 9/8. The power itself isn't really the reason why I'm looking to buy one. I am looking for an evo that is a well rounded car, that handles well, a car that would be a daily for a good while but would eventually become a project.

Now here is what is keeping me from pulling the trigger on either one. I love that the evo10 has the AYC, I love the styling, I love how it is a perfect daily yet it has the potential to be something great, I like how the mivec allows for it to be more responsive than a 8/9 in the lower rpms. As for the 8/9, I like how light it is, I love the styling, I like that it is AWD but hate that it doesn't have the mivec. I like that the evo 8/9 also has the potential to be something amazing. It may not be the best daily but all im interested in a daily is if it can get me from point a to point b and take with me more than 1 person along. I am aware most 8/9 aren't prestine and that they are old cars, I am not looking for a perfect 8/9, however I am looking for a x with less than 60k miles that hasn't really been modded or mistreated, don't mind the mods if any however.

I'm not sure y'all. This is such a headache, should the AYC really be a deal breaker for getting a 8/9? Should the 300+ pounds that the evo x has over the 8/9 be a deal breaker? Will I regret buying a x if the 8/9 appreciates in the future and makes it harder to get? In a perfect universe, I would love to own both but can't at the moment, at least not financially.

Will it be X or 8/9?

Thank y'all for reading

You can definitely find a lot of 8/9/10 comparison threads. I think it comes down to personal preferences, what you want to do with the car and budget, but it is certainly easier to find a low mileage X in 2021. Have you driven them? If not, that is where I would suggest starting.

Sadly I haven’t been able to drive one. Don’t know anybody who has one. I would love to drive both, it would be of great help to make me decide.

For daily driving buy a X MR and forget the rest.
But drive them first and for low mileage a X will be the one.

I was in a similar voyage but ended up with a 2015 X GSR. With the current market on 8's and 9's, I couldn't justify paying close to 30k for a semi-clean car. For a little bit more infoumd an X with 24k miles completely unmodified. Nice modern feeling car, still plenty of power. The weight difference is definitely noticable especially when I drive my friends 9. Definitely more of a go cart. But AYC is pretty damn fun and if you aren't looking for an all out toy, I think the X is a great option

If you want to fly to VT in a couple of months after they quit salting the roads, I'd let you drive mine. 🙂 It's in the garage until then. I was fortunately able to drive at least one 8/9/10 before I bought my first. I liked them all, but buying the X new was the best balance for me.

I certainly would love the opportunity to drive it. Thanks for the invitation. I’ll see how my schedule will line up with a trip out of state. I have been searching and there isn’t that many evos in the area, I’ll probably have to do a nationwide search as well to find the evo in looking for. I’ll let you know what my schedule will allow. Man I love the X but I also love the 8/9 as well

Man those 300 pounds are scary to me, I’m more of a function over form type of individual. It’s been hard to choose between any of the 3. Idealistically if I were to get an evo, It’d either be an 8, 9MR, or X GSR. The AYC is certainly a big plus for the X though.

Im only concerned about mileage when it comes to the X, not really that concerned with the 8/9 mileage since it is an older car. As for the X MR, I like that it’s a 6 speed over a 5 speed but I do like the manual and am looking to get a manual evo. I’ll keep in mind the X for daily driving. It’s just so hard to decide, each generation is special and good in its own way.

Coming from a challenger rt weighing 3960 with me in it, the X is a dream compared haha

AYC has been mentioned a few times, unless you are tracking or doing performance driving with the car it won’t be as big as a deciding factor on which car to get. That said, the feature itself is a noticeable difference. If you been to an autocross where there are very tight turns, just look at how the 8/9 vs the X go through slaloms. I driven both on the same course and felt the difference. Really pissed Mitsubishi didn’t include it on the 8/9

That’s my fear and somewhat my big question. Is the lighter 8/9 better at cornering due to it being lighter by 300 pounds or is the evo X with the AYC really that much better even with the 300 pounds. And is that difference something that can be minimized by bigger sway bars/suspension mods on a 8/9 or by removing and stripping a 10? Ideally I would love a JDM evo 9, that would make this decision so easy.
