New Evo 8 owner here...saved car from getting parted out.

I purchased the car a year ago as a non-running car with a bad motor and missing parts. Not sure why I chose this route exactly. But after owning an Evo III when I lived in Japan and enjoying the car I've had it in the back of my mind to own an Evo again one day. Car is still at the body shop getting repainted to the factory color. Hoping to have it back soon and running over the winter.

Yes i hate that similing face on the intercooler too...lol

I have a built 2.0 long rod short block and a freshened up head with GSC S2 cams/Spings/ and Retainers put together and ready to go in.

Sounds like you have a pretty solid plan already!

Mind posting the planned turbo and fuel setup as well as planned use for the car? I love seeing what people are picking these days.

Nice to see people saving these cars and doing proper restoring/factory paints again. That happy face intercooler would bother me so much I’d rip it off in the first 10 minutes lol do you at least know if you’re going to use Japanese spec parts for this build? Aftermarket or oem build?

If you’re on the west coast check out the evogrimreaper on IG. He buys and parts out evo’s everyday (sad face)

he sells shells too as they come and go. So you can keep an eye on his inventory.

he just sold a clean white evo 9 rs shell. Caged car tho.

Yea I follow him, almost grabbed that 9rs with the shell but kept debating on the cage part.

Right now I'm doing an Evo 9 turbo and stock injectors to get it running. My goal is only 400-450 hp at the wheels.

I agree on the happy face intercooler. I tried spray painting over it and you can still see it...but for now I want to get the car back together and running before I tackle the intercooler. I'm thinking I may be able to get away with lightly sanding the happy face part on the bars and paint it again. If that does not work it will get replaced.

The Evo9 turbo will make right around 400whp on E85 but you'll need bigger injectors and a fuel pump to get there.
That is a great power level and setup for these cars. Reliable and violent. They feel insane even if they don't make "that much" horsepower.

Where I live it’s a 45min to 1 hour commute for the closest station.

Its super odd that places don't have it. Where I'm at, basically every station has it.
