Thumbs up Newbie Inquiring about Evo 7 GT-A

Hi,

Firstly, I am new here and am interested in purchasing a 2002 Mitsubishi Evolution 7 GT-A model. The vehicle seems to drive well and has the original paint and about 127k km odometer. Car I'd say is fair good-mint condition. The transmission was replaced some time ago by the current owner and it shifts smooth. It was stated that he replaced it with another transmission from a different Evo (possibly the Evo 9 wagon auto if I remember correctly). He stated he did this to overcome the common fault of the "wave spring" issue and is the reason why the original transmission failed. I can't tell any of this is true of course but the gentleman is well known and seems to be well off in our community therefore I believe him.

Next up, I drove the vehicle and found it to be a bit slow. Where I live we only have 95 octane fuel if that matters. The gentleman told me he has not done any modifications other than the transmission swap, a new aluminum radiator and HKS blow off valve. I am trying to wrap my head around it because I really like how the car looks, it just feels slow for a Evolution line-up. The vehicle felt like it was not boosting much (basing on sound of BOV mostly). I am looking to keep the unit stock until reselling. it will be a daily work commute and sometimes 2 hour mountainous drive (I am from St. Lucia which consist mostly of hills and mountains).

ref:

This instrument cluster looks different but this is how it seemed to perform and did not impress me at all.

1. Is it very easy to buy the required cable 1.3U and retune easily?
2. Can I add a bit more boost pressure to gain a bit more power as is?
3. Will the "upgraded" transmission hold up to slightly increased power?
3. There is code P0400 and is EGR related, cheap to repair?
5. How many kilometers do you guys get from a full tank normal driving? is this a high fuel consumption vehicle or does it compare to lets say a large AWD SUV like 2.0-2.5 Nissan NT31 X Trail?

Thanks for your input in helping decide if I should get it or not. I don't mind buying if I can easily add 30-40 hp. It's at a great price and I know the vehicle will not devalue on me which is a plus for me. Cheers!

I have owned my GTA for over 15 years and it’s a great weekend car to drive over the mountains to our local wineries for lunch.
