I made the decision to sell my Evo 9 and buy my friend's 2014 Evo X GSR. The primary reason was that I longed for the X platform. While the 9 is an incredible machine, I find it to be somewhat out of date. I think that the claim that the Xs aren't genuine evos is complete nonsense! It has been demonstrated that they can keep up with or even outperform 9s and the majority of current automobiles.

This is 1000% use case dependent.
For a street car, its tough to beat the reliability factor of a simple FBO setup. Simple fuel system, simple turbo setup, and makes enough power to get you in trouble but not enough to be constantly eating up parts.
For a pure racing setup (drag, track, whatever), this kind of comes down to goals for the car. If you are competing in the big boy classes, you are going to need more power at some point.
As I do every time something like this gets asked I'll throw in my obligatory, note of really and I mean REALLY think about how you will actually use the car. There is nothing worse that building something that you see online and only after its done realizing it doesn't work for you and now you have a car you don't enjoy and it ends up rotting, getting parted out or being sold for far less than you have in it. A 400whp evo that you enjoy driving is soo much better than a 1000whp evo that you hate driving.
