Unless you're converting a Mirage to an Evo or have a specific goal (i.e. 1/4mi times) it's just plain not cost effective. If you're doing an Evo conversion...you're far wealthier than I may ever be.

The problem with MIVEC is that no mechs in the US will have much, if any, hands on experience with it and parts could be a problem as well. Someone mentioned wanting to do this with their Lancer. There may be issues with the sulphur content of American fuel as well. As much as I love both engines for what they are, neither makes sense to swap in unless you're essentially trying to build your car into another car.

EDIT: I freakin' love how much usable torque the MIVEC engines create with SO little discplacement. Technology is a beautiful thing.

They need to come state-side with MIVEC!!! I think you are right though...something about our fuel content keeps it from happening..

Rumors are that they might bring it stateside with a different Lancer engine in the future... I doubt it, but, it could happen in 5-10 years in this guy's opinion.

Oh, and it is SOOO hard to get banned. I've tried on at least two occasions, not to mention the accidental times. Takes alot more than just being an ingrateful, insolent newb. Else there would be a dozen members.

Well, that's a good point Hobie... I guess if I didn't contribute at all, I'd have been banned five times over by now. I'd like to think I contribute.

Mordeth, I think you were actually targeted in one of my outbursts, huh? I dunno, but, oh well. I think my next little outburst might have been smiley related, but, seems people have gotten better. Damn.

Back on topic...

Did this guy say that he simply cannot import an EVO? What about EI? If money is no object, you could damn well find a way to import one of those babies, and have the HP you're looking for, AND have AWD, AND have some of the drivetrain goodies... probably for the cost it would take to do a conversion with a 4G63 and transmission.

Wow. This is an amusing thread, and on a Saturday no less!

Seriously, an Evo CAN be imported to the US. If you're willing to spend as much as you say you are, then go call EI. Not tough, really.

EI is Evolution Imports. They're one of this site's sponsors. I believe they even have adds on the Evolutionm.net main page.

Whether you like SL, myself, or anyone else, the forums are not the place to talk trash. Please keep that in PMs. LEV, you're beginning to strike me as the type of person who would make a square peg in a round hole with a a hammer before looking more deeply for other possible solutions. If you stop getting snippy with people I'm sure they'd be more likely to help you. Our goal isn't to crush your ideas of a dream car, it's to help you find alternatives to the end goal. You seem very stuck in your one idea and I think what everyone's trying to say is that there may be better solutions.

I think I asked before, but I really don't remember...what exactly is your end goal?

I don't see how it would be cheaper than 32K for a street legal Evo to be imported from overseas. I could say that you are idiotic for saying you have tried so hard when there is a company that does it right on the front page of this site, but, I won't respond in kind. Don't get mad at me because you can't read, and have a totally unreasonable request. That's all I have to say about that. I tried to give you an alternative that would probably be cheaper, and easier, but, if you don't want my help, fine, say so.

It's more to the tune of 36.5k. The only 2 things I don't like about EI are unavoidable. 1. You can't finance through them...but they're not a bank so no big suprise there. and 2. long wait due to shipping, customs and regulations. Still...damn good deal if you have the money.

Exactly. If you think you'll spend less than 32 large on the conversion, go ahead and do it. But why go through the trouble of doing it all to just have...yup, you guessed it. A Mirage.

It's still a Mirage.

can't slice it any other way than that, man.

The conversion is doable...it's just EXTREMELY difficult. Knowing how to do engine swaps is barely the tip of the iceberg. The drivetrain/transmission etc will be a huge pain in the *** I'm certain. Such a hassle for so little benefit. If I had the money I'd just buy jigga's Evo V. Beautiful car from pics and mods, must be immaculate because he shows it at import shows and you know he's still tuning it. Curse my broke ***.
