Actually if it wasn't so expensive swapping the whole engine + gearbox + AWD and everything from an EVO to a Mirage would give a great rally car, or any sort of racing actually. The Mirage is smaller and lighter than the Lancer and even the Cyborg was quick. This is what I think Mitsubishi should be running in the WRC now everyone has kit cars. Also there is a VW Golf out here (Brisbane, Australia) with an AWD + 4g63 engine swap from a Galant VR4.

That's crazy...

EvoV, I didn't know that you wanted an EVO 5, but you kept saying EVO like, any EVO would do. So, that being cleared up...

No hard feelings on this side. If you could pull it off, it'd be cool. Good luck. Glad you found your engine, at least.

Seriously good luck. Are you doing the entire Evo drivetrain or just the engine swap and remaining FWD?

This should be interesting...i say he gets 1/4 way through and realizes what he got himself into. i'm still in the process of realizing how much work my turbo it...let alone an engine swap. but good luck...you'll need every bit of it.

By all means, please post pics. Nothin' better than "The building of the beast" series.

Cost?? I got a quote for $10K (labor only) for "complete" coversion. That was a rally shop who did this before.

How Hard? That will involve cutting the trunk/rear passenger seat floor panel and replacing it with a part from AWD Lancer with fuel tank...a lot of welding and keeping the chassis line up perfectly.

Of course, you will have to find some place to buy the floor panel and fuel tank

Wouldn't the welding of the chassis cause a problem with different rigidities and welding and stuff? I've heard this so many times, but that never crossed my mind before.
