Excuse me if this has been discussed before but I am confused. I was looking through my Hyper Rev mag and noticed that the JDM Evo 8 was badged 2 different ways... In a few of the pics, the badging on the Evo was similar to the US Evo 8 with a small "Lancer" badge on the bottom left of the trunk and a small "Evolution" on the bottom right of the trunk. However, in some of the other pics there were no small badges, but rather a large "EVOLUTION" under the mitsubishi emblem... I was just curious as to why they were badged differently and which model Evo the "EVOLUTION" badge comes on...

Well that particular badge in the picture is most likely from an Evo VII, with VII removed from the badge. I also think that the tiny lancer evo badge on the US spec cars is USDM only, but I could be wrong.

 

Actually I was looking through the HKS Kansai website and it also showed an Evo 8 with that same badge, so I doubt it was from an Evo 7 badge. You are incorrect about the small lancer badge as well...

 

That badge you posted in an EVO VII badge. The new EVO VIII badge looks similar, but has a more rounded form to it. Those badges are found on european spec cars, and we don't know why Mitsubishi didn't put them on the USDM and JDM evos. That's a very good first mod to do, along with a shorter antenna and maybe some JDM EVO VII tails. And about the JDM evos having the "lancer" and the "evolution" on different sides, I don't know what's up with that, but they are the same badges we have.

The black one pictured here has an Evo 7 badge with the "VII" removed. Some people like the font better and they are cheaper (due to the pound-doller rate) than the "Evolution VIII" badge found only on the FQ-300 in the UK. Myself, eh, I went the distance and got the full UK one. As far as the rest, nobody knows why the US has the badges mounted on the same side of the trunk vs the way the rest of the world does it.
