how much power gain?
how much power gain?
I am new to these forums, but might become a regular poster.....My question is I have a few things on order and I am wondering what to expect. right now I have a rrm-sri, and a testpipe...I have already ordered a rrm header, rrm magnaflow catback, rrm spark plug wires, and a buschur downpipe...with all that installed how much hp gain at the wheels should I expect... One more question what spark plugs do ya'll recommend. thank you
View the engine tech forum for the big spark plug debate. Horsepower gains are difficult to forecast, but it sounds like you are on the right track. I would guess you can expect to see about 10-15 hp gained at the wheels with all of that, but that's just a rough and conservative guess.
SIM, 15 at the wheels or at the crank? And you don't get to add up th hp gains like a calculator. All I can tell you is that a car with similar mods (intake, header, test pipe, catback, and fpr) dynoed in at 120 whp, which is about 15 more than stock.
seriously you need poper tuning....bolt ups ya give u gains however it is not uncommon to slap on parts and go slower....i have seen this so many times with DSM ppl dont understand that its tuning/fuel which brings everything together....spend money on your parts and just as much on a good dyno runs!!!

I'm still pretty sure that both of those companies advertise 15-17 hp *depending on mods, meaning they dynoed a car with a few other bolt ons as well. Putting a header on a stock exhaust with no intake is not going to gain much.
As FstBBYevo said, you really don't see true gains unless you do some dyno tuning. Piggybacks and the like take information from another car's tune and attempt to bring that over to your car, so it's a rough but helpful mod. Other than that, I don't see any bolt ons as producing a huge amount of power. And it's true that people can slap bolt ons on and still lose power. the car I referred to with the 120 whp also recorded a shameful 110 wtq, which is a loss of 10 ft/lb over stock.
Themassage2000, that sounds like you have a decent plan for bolt-on performance, and 125 at the wheels with those mods and the piggyback is possible. I just don't want you or anyone thinking they can drop a grand into the car for bolt ons and then do a 140 whp dyno run. RMR did tons of tuning just to get that out of their Lancer rally car.

well my exhaust should be here by wednesday next week I can't wait....I heard with a header you can feel the kick back in higher rpm's...however I also hear I will lose my low end. That kinda sucks, but oh well.
