Question No AYC?!?

Does it bother anyone else that the US MR will NOT have AYC? I was hoping Mitsubishi would get it right this time. After all, it's not like we want them to build something that doesn't exist. The UK EVOs have AYC, ACD, and retain the intercooler spray.

Who cares about AYC? It's junk.

If it was junk, I seriously doubt Mitsubishi would have invested the time and effor to design it. After all, power is nothing without CONTROL.

Read up. There've been nothing but complaints about it.

Most people say that they actually LOSE control more easily with AYC than without.

Also, the Euros have all that but we have different space inside our engine bays because of the US bumper requirements.

Interesting...I haven't heard it was more problems than it's worth. However, I'd still opt for it if they ever bring it over. Until they do, no EVO for me.

the AYC system was revised and improved for the MR. the ABS, ACD and AYC all work together to maximize traction, even under braking now. there's been nothing but praise so far for the MR...although time will tell if mitsu got it right with the AYC.

i wish we were getting AYC too, but at least we're getting the ACD which (i think) is more useful.

Sadly, that's exactly what I'm saying. I was planning on picking up an MR this fall or next year until I learned it was missing the AYC. I'm tired of car manufacturers short changing the US. Until it comes with ALL the cool gadgets non-MR EVO owners enjoy in the UK, Mitsubishi will have to wait to earn my $$$.

Hmmmmmm last year the factory SCCA ProRally team cleaned up with their USDM, Vermond Sports Car prepped EVO 8's. All without ACD and AYC. Even with ACD you never get more than 50% of the power to the rears. All ACD does is split torque between 50/50 and 10/90 F/R. In snow mode I believe the car functions more or less like FWD. Tarmac keeps it around 50/50 and Gravel is somewhere in between. AYC just seems like something more to fix down the line, and a good rear LSD should be all most people need. Front LSD would be really nice, but only under some extreme cornering, and you can definitely do without. But, I feel you, USDM should at least have the option for AYC.

go get the best motoring where they compare the Rally EVo to the PUMA evo. You will want SAYC. The newest version is similiar to the Acura RL .

that video has a rally car vs a circuit car on a circuit course! take that circuit car to the rally and see who does better! hardly a definitive comparison.

From everything I've read, AYC is good on all Evos 7+ and it doesn't break like on 6 and earlier models. However, everyone also said that Evo without it is more fun to drive than with it because you get the funky feel in the back when it kicks in and starts to transfer TQ back and forth. Yes, you might be faster on a road course if you drive like Tommi Makinen but otherwise why bother with something that will require more maintenance?
Sarah, if you're not getting the Evo because it doesn't have it, you better be a pro driver and will use the car on road courses and auto-x tracks at least once a month.
I bet Evo9 will come with it and the price will go up another $5k

i don't know about that.... correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the sayc2 device is located near the rear differential. that shouldn't conflict with US bumper requirements. i hear that it does conflict with shipping requirements though. i have an MR myself and i'm happy with the acd. but i would like to install sayc2 if anyone can tell me where and how much it is. any ideas anyone??
