I'm a lurker and im too poor to own an evo.... Well i just bought my insurance today tho. I finally got my car (1994 Accord) and the insurance was expensive. It'll cost about $879 for 6 months with 250k damage, medical, etcetc. Is this a good deal? I got the good student discount and also put myself as an occasional driver. (my parents added me to their policy) Is this the cheapest? Or is there anyway i can lower my rate, other than not getting a ticket or get into an accident? My parents was thinking bout getting the minimum coverage (15k coverage) and it only cost 614 for 6 months. But then again, my parents were too scared to get sued if i get into an accident so got the better coverage. Any advice?
Btw, I live in California near Los Angeles. And im 16....

Welcome to being 16 and owning a car. When I was 16, I paid $110/month for a 10 year old beater truck in a cheaper part of hte country. Just how it is. High school kids get in a lot of accidents (imagine that).
Call around, but you probably won't be able to find a considerably lower rate for the same coverage. Make sure you have at least 100/300/100 liability, 50k damage, 5k medical, uninsured/underinsured coverage, and a low deductible ($250) comprehensive. Anything less than that is risking more than it's worth to save a few bucks.

you can make it cheaper if you take off the medical. You don't need it as long as you're covered under some kind of health insurance by your parents or the school or something. If you have no other medical coverage I'd keep it though. Insurance companies make a killing adding that medical because most people have insurance and whenever there's a claim they'll coordinate benefits and the car insurance company barely has to pay anything....sometimes they don't pay at all depending on your deductibles.

Relax it will be ok, i think im payin more for my inchurince on my Evo at 17 with full coverage, then i am on the car payments themselfs. I have done a lot of searching with difftent companies and diffrent cars, trucks, and bikes and sadly all i have found out is that if you want decent coverage, you will have to wait till you turn 25

I got 500k for medical, uninsurared coverage and everything. And I pay zero to get my car fixed. I still find it expensive. Originally Posted by WestSideBilly

My friend has had.... 3 accidents an he's only 19 it's kinda sad. I'm surprised his parents don't make him pay his own insurance...
One of those accidents was my poor old Mirage
Letting friends drive your car is always a mistake... cause they usually suck at driving.....
