I just cant believe how much people knock the SRT-4...I've driven it, my friend owns one...I own an EVO...SRT-4's are not a throw away car, they run very well and have proven to have less problems than both the EVO and the STi. It doesnt handle as well, but the engine, transmission and clutch have definitly proven themselves in the SRT-4. It's cheaper to insure and cheaper to run. It doesnt blow brake discs, tires and clutches every 10k miles. If you only have 20k then I would get the SRT4 instead of financing the rest on a EVO. Even if you have 25k, I'd still get the SRT-4 and save the rest...Only consider the EVO/STi if you have 30k with enough money saved to pay for replacement items. I've owned my EVO for only a few weeks and its already costed me more money than I would like to admit.

STI's are nice and hold better resale, They also a supported by the dealers with warrenty claims. So that are the pros about the Subaru.

EVO is a hard core driving machine. It's not for everyone and if you keep it stock and have warrenty issues I'm sure will fix them. But if mod it and you will kiss the warrenty good by. If you can live with that you will be very happy with the EVO.

I have not had one warrenty issues as of yet with my car. 12500 miles

hey chrisfx811 do you have an 05 sti or an 04 sti. i believe subaru fixed the steering ratio problem for the 05s but also put in that new center console, different offset riims, "jdm" headlights, and some other stuff. in terms of price they're about the same really, i got quoted on an sti for 30k otd and i got my evo for 29.7k otd. if we already did not have a track wrx, i might have gone for the sti. i just think the thought of a wingless sleeper sti just looks soo hot imo.

Great post!

The srt is only 1.5 years old and its being tagged a "throw away car"?

People fail to realize that the srt shares NOTHING with the base neon. The motor, tranny, clutch, axles..etc are exclusive to the srt.

NVG T850 transaxle, Sachs high-po clutch, forged internals, beefed up equal length axles, Quaife lsd....all are stout pieces right from the factory and are meant to be driven hard on the race track.

yeah it's really underestimated. man if only quaife made a lsd for the evo, can mitsubishi factory install one onto a non-rs evo? the quaife warranty is nice though.

I guess I can talk for both the Evo and the STi since I own a Evo and my brother owns an STi. The inside quality of the STi is better than the Evo, but overall I like the Evo better. Its too hard to shift fast while racing in the STi while in the Evo, its qukc shifting straight into the gears. It just gets in there perfectly.

But its all preference on looks and style, they are both amazing cars, but I would choose the Evo over the STi because its more mod friendly. As far as the SRT-4, those are badass cars for 20k, but I just dont like FWD.

i have a STi, i had a wrx , my two boys have evo's . another buddy has a srt4. i would stick with at least the awd cars. the3 srt4 is ok but to me is a waste of time. the evo is a great car. im not going to say the sti is better, (which it is). i do give the evo massive credit. it is a hell of a machine. these two cars are truly the ultimate cars to have . so i love the STi and the evo.

Evo has an even weaker clutch. After 10 or so launches, expect to buy a new one...WHAT DOES THAT MEAN LAUNCHES ???

nothing except the chassis, which was always the weakest link of the neon. if they stiffened the chassis and made it rwd or awd, the srt-4 would be a GREAT car.

I beg to differ. I would consider the fact that the car is FWD as a limiting factor (but not limited too) a much more weaker link than the chassis.

With Mopar competing in the SCCA ProRally and T2 circuits they have proved that the chassis is very well capable. There are others that are campaigning the car as well that are not tied to Daimler/Chrylser and are doing well. (Snyder Motorsports)

Look up and see how many titles this car has brought home and what the current national standings are. You'll be surprised.

true, srt-4s have done well in some competitions, but those are rarely stock cars. i would bet that all have added chassis bracing and suspension upgrades. the stock neon chassis flexes a lot.

Good post chrisfx:

A SRT4 owner in TX made 500WHP without changing any of the stock internals and using the stock tranny (WOW!). Its on Sports Compact Car. I believe the engine on the SRT4's are 2.4L not 2.5L.... supposedly the engine internals and tranny were built to withstand a lot of power by Dodge. Add to the fact that the SRT4 comes with less understeer than the WRX/STi .... go figure.....

SRT-4 only looks good when I see it in my rear view mirror. I have to admit the front of the car looks great but the a s s of the car doesn't match the front. It needs to be loweredand have a larger bumper.

umm...care to place that bet?

Try a set of Mopar/KW Stage 2 coilovers and a roll cage.

Please tell me how you would know if the chassis flexes or not?
