god this sucks!

I went to the dealership today and they want to charge me $150 for a remote and $85 to recode it.

looked on ebay and found the remotes for $12 each.

Is it possible to recode the remotes myself?

Yes I believe you can program it yourself. I will try to look up the procedure on how to do it unless somebody beats me to it.

Umm to rekey the whole car it would cost a good much.

You would have 4 locks to do, plus recode both the key and the remotes. Dont forget the keys are expensive cause of the imobalizer chip in it.

thanks that would be awesome, the dealer says that I couldn't do it myself and that they needed to hook up some kind of computer to it.

naw this dealership was a subaru dealership that had a used evo (traded in my 04 wrx). took it to a different mitsu dealer. The place I got it from says that they only got 1 Key and no remotes, so I told the guy I lost my spare key and 2nd remote to my WRX although I had it in my pocket ready to give to him lol.

Damn, I hope you got a sweet a$$ deal on that EVO cuz I would seriously get the locks rekeyed or the remotes reprogrammed to a different signal. Also get different plates. I'd be paranoid as hell knowing someone out there has another key to my car AND the remote to open it!

I need this info as well. I just bought a used EVO (with only 6 miles on it--long story) and I got one key and a remote that is not programmed. I need to know how to program the darn thing and, if it works, there's plenty of these on ebay for about $20. I would still need to buy an wxtra key from the dealer, but how much could that be?
