getting an evo.. any advice?

well i believe i am trading in my eclipse for an evo pretty soon, and i'm wondering, if you could go back and do it over, what would you do differently? and getting an MR is not an option, because for me, it will probably be too $$ and difficult to find.

would you recommend an RS or no? can anyone be so greatful and summarize the differences between an RS or a 2004/2005 model? thanks in advance guys...

cheers

Remember the resale value of the evo is pretty bad right now. So, take full advantage of that. If you look around, you could get a good deal. Also, be reasonable with your expectations. The interior is simple and functional and the engine is a workhorse. You are not getting a beamer so don't expect climate control and other ammenities. This car is for a driver and should be driven....I realize that sounds funny, but when you get behind the wheel....you'll understand. Good luck and enjoy.

yeah very good advise...

theres still some 03 evos at the dealer brand new..although u might not get the color u want..but they'll let it go for under invoice...

and hes right about the interior...make sure u test drive the car 1st..what u see is what u get in the interior...nothing more..but u'll forget all that stuff once the turbo spool up and ure going around a corner...gl man

Wait for the '05 Evo models, 276hp, 282lb-ft torque, ACD, front/rear differentials, If you have tight budget get the '05 RS, or consider the Standard '05 Evo 8 if you have extra $$. If only i waited for a year, i should have bought an '05 Evo, darn Mistu!

Im happy with what I got and I don't race the car enough anyways so I don't see the point for the newer model...plus with modifications the HP differences don't matter...the only thing I want is the 6 speed!

im not really using the car to drag or autoX, but to use as a daily driver with some extra kick as well, so you're sayng the front LSD and ACD aren't worth the extra money? in other words, you recommend not spending more cash on the upgrades for 2005? I Just read this on the first page:

1) 5sp trans, limited slip rear diff, open front diff, 50/50 center diff. All 03's and non RS 04's
2) 5sp trans, limited slip front and rear diff, 50/50 center diff. 04 RS
3) 5sp trans, limited slip front and rear diff, active center diff. all 05's except MR
4) 6sp trans, LS front and rear, active center diff. MR

which helped to clear some things up for me. so right now, it seems like i'd be leaning towards just a regular evo 8 '04... any thoughts?

thanks guys, it feels weird being a newbie on these forums after being a moderator at club3g :/

Glad that cleared things up for you Player. If I knew what I know now I would have orded an 04 RS instead of my 04 regular car. That was back when the "Urban" package was supposed to happen. I was figuing the RS with AC and all the other crud that was supposed to come with that package would be almost as expensive as the normal car. Get the normal car and you get ABS in the deal, and you could add a front LSD for about a grand.

It ended up that the RS had AC and was $3000? cheaper than the normal car. Anyway, if I were going to buy and EVO out of inventory right now, I would look for an 03 or an 04 RS depending on how much I valued ABS. (good luck finding an 04, RS in stock though)

By an MR, don't buy a 03, don't pay markup, and be carefull of voiding warranty.

Why not an RS for a driver? Too much work to roll down the windows at Burger King? Book bag will not be happy without carpet in the trunk? No ABS, well that could be a factor. Back in the day, ABS was a joke for a performance driver, but with the modern systems I like it. Even on the track.

wow you people know your evo;s, impressed.

personnaly with the evo being a rally derived vehicle i always go for the RS spec, simple, basic, light and no AYC to get concerned over.

As somone said dont expect luxury but expect ease of tuning and superb handling and small back road blasts
