HID Installation Question...........

Question.. If HID Bulbs are the SAME exact bulbs does it matter what the ballast and other part is? Because, my friend is a little gangster and got me a set of HID's for $100 bux... The bulbs are exactly the same but the ballast's are two different ones, one being from a Acura TL and one is Aftermarket...... Will the lights look different or do I not have to worry because its the same exact bulb???

isn't the temperature dependant on the bulb? or the ballast?

the ballast for each HID are set to run at a certain temperature, granted, you can usually go higher, but if you go to too high, the ballast will probably crap out on you because it isn't meant to burn that high, either that or the bulb, in most cases though involving HID, the ballast actually takes the beating from what i've heard

i'm rereading my posts, man they don't make any sense at all.. grr

the HID ballast is made to run at a certain temperature, if the bulb you use is made to run at a higher temp, it usually will , and will be ok, it just wears the life of the HID kit down

...maybe i'm wrong, anyone feel free to correct me

more often than not, you CANNOT mix and match different HID bulbs with different ballasts.. especially trying to combine oem acura HIDs with aftermarket ballasts. you could always try, but there's really no guarantee. HIDs are supposed to last longer than the life of your car, but if your 'ghettofied' HID retrofit works, there's really no guarantee that the lifespan of that kit will last. who knows... it may work so just give it a try. if it does work, but your bulbs dont last as long as you expected, it was only $100.. and u have an excuse to go with a complete HID kit hehe. btw, are you using the cedia headlights or stock headlights? and wut size bulbs are the acura HIDs? coz i kno someone who put maxima HIDs on his car and he had to drill to make them fit.. so just be aware of that.

just FYI, the ballast is what allows the bulbs to run at alot less wattage than stock [35v], thus giving it a longer lifespan than regular halogens.. thats one primary "job" of the ballasts.. i just cant remember the rest hehe.

a good set (around 400-500 w/o the bulbs) will be working longer than your car in most cases

i think HIDs last around approximately 100,000+ hours.

just make sure if any of you get HIDs, you shouldn't be flickering them on and off. once its on, leave it on. turning them on and off repeatedly may kill your ballasts.. just a little advice to consider.

Ok, Acrua CL Hid Ballast + Infinit G35c Ballasts and a pair of Philips HID Bulbs = The same exact look. At first it was an acura and an Aftermarket one.. the aftermarket one blew a fuse and didn't work anymore. Substituted for a G35 and it is a perfect fit/work and match. Yes only $100 not bad considering they run about 500-700. Ghetto as it is, I don't care who he must have gotten it from because i doubt it was bought from a dealership even though it was in box and with wrapping, it was one of each and it works perfect and is beautiful! Thanks for the responses guys!
