He's got a great deal though, if he waits for the MR, it won't be the same circumstances.

Damn, the dealers just letting you know that business sucks, and asking yout to be their freind.

I have owned a 98 Eclipse, never had a problem, great car, miss it actually. I traded that for a 2002 Eclipse GT... boat handling, slow piece of crap, with a crap for build quality. Its the car that drove me to get my S2k and drop Mits completely.

So hears the story. I bought my S2k with 23k miles, it has almost 40k now. My old Mits dealer wants to buy my s2k at original MSRP minus 6k for milage (there abouts). That's comes out $26k or so, I paid 22k for my car. The basic idea here is they are trying to get customers back who abandoned them for other makes and models. They also will get me the 5yr/60k mile warranty and 45k miles of free service.

Now the only reason I'm considering this is that this mitsu dealer service department bent over backwards for me trying to fix my Eclipse GT. That and wanting a bigger car that hauls azz with AWD doesn't hurt either. You ever try driving a RWD 2 seater coupe in the snow? Shiver... and not from the cold.

Bottom line, with all that crap I've read about warranty items being denied, and tranny problems, would YOU do it? Trade in the s2k that I have to beat off the teenieboppers with a stick and get the Evo? (you know i find it funny that at 29 I have 15 year old girls yelling they want a ride, I wouldn't, but it is funny). Performance is more my thing though, and a better ride in inclement weather since working for a hospital they don't have anything called a snow day.

Ok, is that incoherrent enough for you?

P.S. considered the STI, but the deal my Mitsu dealership is offerring kills anything I could get at Subaru.... Funny side bar, but I got my s2k at a subaru dealership heh.
Funny you should post this up, I am going to go to an S2k from the evo once I get everything "settled". These very warranty concerns are a real problem should you 1) mod your Evo, 2) have a dealership who won't work with you, and 3) get on the wrong side of Mitsubishi trying to straighten things out.

They are an evil corporation!

So, you wanna trade?

I was incredibly worried about going from my super-reliable '01 S2K to the Evo, but it has been unfounded. For every Evo owner who decries the "horrible" reliability of the Evo, there are probably 50 owners who haven't had a problem at all. And yes, my Evo is modded...

Believe me the warranty/reliablity potential problems scare me. In almost 20k miles I haven't had a single problem to date with this car. That's 40k miles of pretty hard driving without a single blip.

Hard to give that up on what seems to me a 50/50 change of getting screwed over down the line.

As for modding, the CAI is about my limit... maybe wheels. I did the whole modacar (like the website) thing when I was younger. Now I have the simple belief that if its not fast enough, I didn't buy the right car.

s2kguy, the evo may be right for you then. I love my car, but I am ready to give it away to get rid of the Mitsu headaches I am feeling.

If you want warranty coverage without a headache, don't mod it, or be prepared to throw it back to stock for every trip to the stealer. OR find a cool dealership that will let you slide in for warranty work under the radar.

So what year is your S2k again?

Anyone know if the trade-in deal happens for all dealers or not?

bottom line:

I traded an STI for the EVO and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

i traded in a street 2001 S2000 w/ 16k miles for my new evo in March 2003. Not a major problem with my Evo in the 12.4k miles that I have on it. Alignment was off and my inter-cooler hose popped off....

You should be happy with an Evo. Like Chris said, for everyone 1 person who *****es there are 50+ people who are happy.

I race a red Honda S2000 in the East Coast Honda Challenge, so I can still claim to own both too.

Well, after speaking with a few of the guys at the dealership today about the Evo I've opted out.

Basically the conversation went like this.

Dealer "I'm getting one this year, and only because I have too. If you want it, come in when it gets here and we'll work up a good deal on it".
Me "Why do you want only one? Thought this was the "Hot" car."
Dealer "Too much trouble, these things cost me customers"
Me "That because of Mits dropping the warranty's and messing with the customers?"
Dealer "Can't comment on that, but if you want to buy one the guys up ------ have some, and their welcome to them. If you buy it, be sure to get the work done there. We don't want them"

I guess that says it all. I've dealt with the same guys there since 97-98. They usually tell it the way it is.

This site has some great info and I appreciate it.

I seriously don't know what is getting spread around in the corporate loop, although a dealer that I work with for my warranty and even bought a Mitsu there in the past is saying they plan on dropping Mitsubishi sales+service. They explained to me that the company will no longer be profitable and that warranty and service is underrated from the manufacturer level. In spite of that they said if Mitsubishi can't stand behind their product then why should we?

No MAJOR warranty problems yet though. Original clutch 16k. I am still a happy EVO owner.

I took mine in for a tranny noise, The tech is like i think its fine but i canot make that call. He said he can only order some parts due to the huge cost. So they had to get a district rep to come out and help me. The rep was great tho, but he did check the **** out of my car looking for mods. Im like the car has 1,500miles on it and his like man, i just have to check. He also said that there getting way to many warenty claims on clutches. Says kids like to drop the clutch at 7 grand. He said dealers dont want to sell Evo's cause to many kids buy them and bring them back to them wanting the clutch fixed, then have the nerve to as if we can put in a clutch that they purchased of the internet and still warenty the rest for the drive train. The guy says the clutch is the fuse in the drive system. If I was a dealer I would not want to sell them or service them, just to much hastle. Makes it hard for the "adult buyers" that just want the car for what it its.

Very interesting thread up to this point. I guess it might be a little stupid to ask on an Evo-based website, but I'm in the market and the two cars I'm considering are the S2000 and the Evo. So, all you guys with S200's and Evo's: can you compare them for me? How they drive/feel/perform? What are they like to live with every day? Things like fuel economy, insurance rates, performance in inclimate/winter weather? Overall, which do you think is the better car and why? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really having a hard time making a decision.
