Finally got my evo. tire noise?

i just bought a used 03 evo with 3k miles. i didn't realize it when i was test driving it

but do you guys notice very loud tire noise? is this a common problem?

a big whining noise from front 2 tires. i remember 350z having the same

problems with those low profile performance tires.(i used to work at nissan)

nissan offered full tire warranty if the car was less than 12k miles, and partial credit

for cars with more than 12k miles from the purchase date. i'm just hoping its the

tires and i'm pretty sure it is. i never drove an awd before, so maybe it's normal?

any thoughts guys? thanx

I 've had my RS new for one month. I don't notice any tire noise, just tyranny noise. Check for uneven wear, start w/ rotation...

Change out the tires and the noise disappears

Noise is a sacrifice made for better steering reponse and handling. Do some slaloming maneuvers and you'll forget all about the noise!

Sell the Advans here on the site and replace with Firestone Firehawks in same size like
I did, cost approx $600 for set of 4, 90% of handling remains and practically no tire noise
and should last twice as long--can get at tire rack, best single mod I've done since whether
you go fast or slow the noise is always there to bother you......

I see you're in NYC. there are a good number of Evo dudes in that area. find one and get a second opinion-- sorry to be negative, but "a big whining noise" does not sound like the tires to me, it probably is a transmission or transfer case.

the stock tires do hum, but it's most noticeable around 45-50 mph and it's not that loud.

Simple checks - tire pressure, tread depth, and alignment - might tip you off to a problem. If it's a whine it's almost definitely not the tires.
