yeah, biggest car in its class, good mileage. some say the engine is weak but i think it has potential, especially with the torque. its an all around good car stock, and very reliable. I would recommend it to anyone. I havent had any problems yet, so i cant say anything bad.
May take some mods to really make it a fun car to drive, but that depends on the person i guess. bolt ons and suspension/tire upgrades n such.
Go lancer!!!!

I bought a Lancer ES back in Nov 01. I drove it from Oklahoma to Virginia Tech Univ. and from OK to Las Vegas. It hasn't broken down on me. I have an automatic and I sometimes drive it aggresively. So far it's handling pretty well.
The only problem is dumb luck... every1 who ones a lancer will be hit/crash ( wether ur fault or not).... or the majority have.... the bad not many companies of aftermarket parts... the good.... YET (more and more companies are comming up.)
yeah i remember a few months back like there were 6 ppl who got wrecked and 3 or 4 had thunder gray...i was one of em...
still not fixed yet lol...the fender is just sitting in my house unpainted....oh well lol....maybe ill sell it and get those 'm3' fenders hahaha roflmao

We've had a Lancer for over 9,000 miles (got it at 40k) for the past couple of months. So far there (knock on wood!) there has been no problems. The brakes are squealing but they are original brakes. Engine runs smooth, is very quiet...transmission shifts with no problems. We make sure to drive it like a baby. Every now and then, I'll gun it if I want to race someone but I make sure to drive it consistently easy...
On the other hand I have a 95 Civic which I abuse. Needless to say, it has a lot of things to fix all the time. The most important factor for a car's reliability is not brand but maintenence and care. Brand may be secondary. Yea, it's a Honda, pretty reliable name, but I drive it hard so what you give the car, the car gives back.
The car is VERY roomy for its class, especially in the back seat. Look at a Lancer from the side and notice how the backseat area was designed for maximum room.
The car has all the premium features that you have to pay extra for in other cars (power everything, a/c, c/d, etc) all come in standard in any Lancer form.
Speaking of wrecks, my wife got rear ended by a taxi and the rear bumper is all scratched up and the paint is warped. And then I got into another accident which did no damage to my car as well. These both happened within one month of getting our car.
So yea, the only thing bad so far has been the luck.
Get a Lancer, take care of it, you'll be fine.

I've got an '03 OZ which I got in January '03. 23,500 miles later and I only have two issues. My blower motor resistor went bad (getting it fixed under warranty) and I have a strange rattle underneith the car (oil pan/tranny area) that appears every so often, more of an annoyance than a problem I gather. I'm going to get the rattle checked out before I buy and put on the turbo kit.
Other than those two things the car is just fine.

i have a 02 oz and i love the damn thing, i drive hard more than i should, i look for curvy roads everywhere, and i downshift often, tear around roads, and drive fast....well as fast as it will go all the time.
yellow is not my color, thats my only complaint....the oz didn't come in blue
oh and condensation on the breaks seems to be a constant problem for me, had to get them cleaned 2-3 times because of the squeeking

i bought an oz as well..totaled it on a mt run (not my fault) on july 10th...i miss that car so much. the only problem is lack of hp (which can be helped). i put almost 40k on the car in a yr. took that thing to OH and to FL and drove it 60 miles a day to work and back. i spent a lot of time in that car. i can say that it was wonderful for the price. everything comes stock, it is roomy. i had no problems with that car..i dogged the hell outta it and maintaned it very well also...the car handles really well and has great gas milage. i took that thing autoxing stock and had no problems. parts are becoming readily available now so the possiblities of what you can do for the car is getting better.
god i miss my car. i want her back and both rentals i have had (neon and focus) have both sucked compared to the lancer
