Question evo problem :(

So I was under my car looking around today and I noticed some grease on my exhaut pipe in a very curious place. So I did some further investigation and saw that the boot around one of the joints in the drive shaft is torn and messed up. There was some splattering of grease around it too. Has anyone had a problem like this before?

Also, I will not be able to get the car to a dealership to look at it/fix it for a little over a week because I am going to be moving back to school this coming week. Do you think that if I drive it around like this I will be ok or will something really bad happen? Are there any precautions I can take short of replacing the boot? Please give me any advice you may have.

Thanks,
EvoMike

You can drive it, but if you drive in alot of dirt. You can kiss your driveshaft goodbye, and then it will cost you more due to the cv joint going bad.

You should be ok for a little while. I had a friend that though it didnt matter and was driving home one day and snapped the axle in half. The car is still drivavle since it will snap inbetween the boot you just wont have any power to that wheel. Point being be carful try cleaning it up and siliconeing it till you can go get it fixed or somthing to be on the safe side.

He is correct .... you probably tore the boot that covers the CV joint, unless you replace it, your axle is going to go bad .... in some cases it is cheaper to replace the axle (as in Civics) ....

It'll be OK for a week. No worries. Then take it to the dealership(if you have not done anything to void your warantee) and have them fix it.

just drive it till it kicks. dont try to clean it up, and play dumb at the dealership. they will tow your car, fix it, and give you a rental if they need a full day or two. dont try to clean it up, hell if you have the warranty use it. i have an 04, and one of these days i am going to make them bring me gas, which is part of the whole shebang, gotta love that. good luck

As long as you haven't lowered the car or changed the suspension in anyway they will have to cover it. A devective CV boot is definately a dealer issue.

BTW, your fine for a week of driving, but I wouldn't push it. And don't bother cleaning it up; just take it in and say "hey, look what I found, fix it"

Good luck!

uh oh so they might not warranty it because of my tanabe springs? I dont see how that places extra strain on the drivetrain in any way though.
