Congrats...and welcome to the dark side. I would get a turboback or at least a catback first. Second, get a boost controller and gauge. The factory air intake is actually good and many including myself have found that an after market intake actually lowers your torque but does give you a little more HP on top end. If you want to hear the sound of the blow off valve, then an air intake system will make that happen. I have the RMR and love the sound. If you do get an intake you may want to look into getting the car tuned to lean out the air/fuel mixture.

my friend has an '05 Jetta GLI 1.8T, and VW/Audi have the same BOV problem (set up after the MAP sensor), and he said that w/ an aftermarket DV you can still hear the turbo recirculate when u let off the gas (its obviously not as loud as a BOV). is this true for the Evo as well?
Dude, first off you’re comparing different cars which have different characteristics so what applies to one might not always apply to another.

Secondly, blow-off valves, compressor bypass valves, and diverter valves all the same thing. They all serve the same function, that is to open when the throttle plate is relieve the pressurized intake charge and keep the turbo spinning smoothly. I think you’re confusing the terminology between valves that recirculate and the ones that dump to atmosphere. Dumping to atmosphere on a car that’s still equipped with a MAF will definitely cause drivability issues. With all the metered air going out the BOV, the ECU will dump in more fuel into the engine than what’s really going in.

CBV's recirculate, DV's recirculate, i thought BOV's only vented to the atmosphere. i could be wrong.

sorry still learning Turbo's.

So if I run my "MR diverter valve" and vent it to atmosphere, does that make it an MR BOV? A valve is a valve. We have a valve that's placed on our upper intercooler pipe that is actuated by manifold pressure. It just has a lot of different names for it, but they're all the same thing.

I put distilled water in mine.
[edit] Oh yeah, only filled it up once in 12 months & 13K miles so you can see I don;t use it often .

what are some good gauges to get and how much did you guys pay for them. (also may i include which website did you get them from) because i need some gauges soon, just added my turbo timer. Another thing, i just got my hks tt installled and places around here won't install my alarm back yet because they said the only way it wont conflict is if they install an auto start system with the alarm. Since its a manual, they won't do it, which is gay. Is this the only way to install the alarm to the aftermarktet tt, I know that viper does have a modulator that i can use to use the viper tt but i like the hks one better and wanna keep that instead. Also what kinda intake should I get I was thinking ARC, but it costs a ****load. And as for exhaust I might go with thermal or thermo whatever the company or maybe a company that makes good turboback exhaust. Sorry for listing all this crap, as I am still a newbie making up my mind, money has now become an issue 8- ( But if you can, pleaase help this thread runnin for my newbie *** so i can get good suggestions.
