my new evo 04!!

Just traded in my lancer ralliart towards an 04 evolution 8- ) I Love the damn car, it kicks ***!!!!!!!! just want to say hello to all of you cool evo owners out there 8-) What are some easy useful mods that can help with performance and stuff ? I know I needa boost gauge, I want an electronic boost controller, and etc. Will adding an aftermarket blow off valve void my warranty? Also should i upgrade anythign else like intake or exhaust or should i wait til i break it in a bit. ( I am a little broke now after the down payment so I Might wait) 8- (

Definately wait til after breakin before you do any modding. I'd say a turbo back exhaust would be a great 1st mod since it can free up alot of hp and torque. Will a blow off valve void your warranty? Depends on the dealer really, but the best bet if you really want to get a replacement blow off valve is to just get the one off the MR. I doubt they could void your warranty since it is a Mitsubishi part. Good luck with the car and enjoy.

Turboback exhaust would be a good first mod, or an intake. I asked my local dealer about putting a BOV on my car and they said it would void my exhaust warranty, but if you were going to add a turboback exhaust, it wouldn't even matter. My first mods were intake and bov. Let me tell you, the car sounds freaken AMAZING now. The turbo sounds like a fricken jet engine when I'm accellerating, and the HKS BOV sounds hella loud. I love it. There are tons of peopleon this board that will tell you its a horrible faux pas to put a VTA BOV on your car, but it's all about taste. It will cause some stalling issues, but once you learn to accept it, it's well worth it.

dont waste your money on a BOV, do a search, BOV's hurt the Evo's performance and driving. put a recirculating valve (CBV) on.

what is a cbv? or where can i find cbv products out. My friend told me something about i should add a recircurlating valve on it. I heard the stock blow off valves on the evo are reciculating and if i add an aftermarket one they are usually no recirculating. Im still getting into all this so im a newbie, please don't make fun of me

hahahaha

dude, I saw you on RA forum few months ago, I too made the switch to EVO, that is EVO RS, use to have RA sportback and Eclipse GST sypder!

Ann yong ha se yo!

Got 1200 miles on my virgin, she's got turbo back, boost, egt, water temp guages, intake and lowering spring to be installed, SS brake line, BOV and EBC to come!

where are you in VA, check out local EVO forum, dcevoclub.com...

they're talking about recirculating bov vs. vented to atmosphere. I used to have HKS SSQ BOV vented on my Eclipse, never had a problem. You can always add recirculating kit later to it!

BOV is nice if it was pretuned already by experts. I dont think most are. There is a huge range of adjustability on them. Lots of time tuning that thing. Break in period for me was 1500 miles till it acted normal.

Congrats on the new ride very cool all ideas above good input... I say wait till its broken in then do full turbo back exhaust that will give you the most bang for your buck and yea boost gage would be good too

Mitsu should have put a boost gage on the car stock anyway not sure why they didn't

BOV's don't hurt performance unless they are set up to VTA (not going back through intake). Just set it up like stock. Once you start to turn up the boost you will notice the stock bov leaks. At least mine does so I got the Greddy Type-S. The bov can wait a turboback can not.

BOV's make the car run rich, idle oddly, and pause between shifts. a CBV or DV is much better for the car. I know there have been people playing w/ the GReddy Type S, but ive heard that it does the same thing as a normal BOV after a while. also unless your modding the car heavily the stock set up is best.

my friend has an '05 Jetta GLI 1.8T, and VW/Audi have the same BOV problem (set up after the MAP sensor), and he said that w/ an aftermarket DV you can still hear the turbo recirculate when u let off the gas (its obviously not as loud as a BOV). is this true for the Evo as well?

Are you sure you know what you are talking about? What on earth is a CBV? A DV is a dump valve, or a diverter valve, which is a blow off valve. These days it's common to lump all of them together under the term 'BOV' and that includes the recirculating type (diverter valve), which is the stock setup. Now, it may not be PC to do so but everyone does it, so saying a BOV is a bad upgrade will get you strange looks. It is true that VTA will give problems on a stock car, but a recirculating BOV (or DV) will not. Stock setup is not best, the plastic BOV does leak boost which is pretty crap in my opinion.

haha an yong ha say yo! What up spiderx and mifeso my korean brothers lol. Didn't know there were any around the va area. Im assuming you guys live near northern va in d.c. Im in the hampton roads area, Ricer capital!! Where did you get your turbo back exhaust from. I was looking to buy evo parts online, but I couldn't find anywhere except ebay. I ordered an hks type 1 silver turbo timer for my car now all I need is a boost gauge after I get some more money 8- (
