Hey Everyone.
I just bought a 2004 Evo (white). Previously, I was driving a Mustang, which recently slipped out of warrenty. Instead of waiting for something to break, I decided to be more proactive and trade it in for something that's much more fun to drive. There are a couple of questions that I've already seen some answers to, but I just wanted a little more detail than what I had seen previously....
1. Turbo Timers...Sure, the Stock Turbo is water cooled and cools down fairly quickly...Is idling for a minute sufficient to cool it down so it doesn't burn out? Is this only necessary when you've been driving hard?
2. I have some left over Toyo RA-1's that fit on 17x8 wheels. 255/40. Would they cause any rubbing on my evo?
3. Washing. Is it necessary to mask the hood vent when giving my car a bath? Obviously I would want to avoid a lot of water/soap leaking into the engine compartment, but is a little bad for the health of the engine?
Thanks!

1. If you're willing to wait a minute before shutting down the car no timer is necessary. I don't use one; just let the car cool (listen to the end of your song) and you're ok. After hard driving you should give it an extra minute to cool; while running.
2. Those should fit, but I'm not positive. I'll let someone better with tire sizes give you a definate answer on that. Maybe search the tire forum on this site.
3. There is no need to cover the vent. I find very little water actually gets in there anyway. Just wipe down the motor from time to time to keep the water spots off. It will not hurt the engine at all though.
Enjoy the car and welcome aboard!! I hope you love your evo as much as we all do!!

1. No need for a turbo timer but lots of people get them to be on the safe side since they aren't too pricey. Letting it sit for a minute will be just fine.
2. 255/40 will fit with no rubbing, lots of people are putting that size tire on their 17x9's with no rubbing.
3. Washing the car won't cause any problems, valid question though, I wondered the same thing myself when I first got the car.
4. ENJOY!

hello everyone, let me first say that this is the best forum i have found, its packed full of info. i bought my evo back in feb. before the evo i rode a superbike rain or shine, my only means of transportation. well, the dmv sent me a letter stating they were going to suspend my license based on the amount of moving violations i accumalated. one more citation and i'd be riding my tenspeed to work. it was time to get four wheels underneath me. i had no clue as to what to get, except it can't be a sportscar or anything that would get me into trouble. i needed a sedan. well, to make a long story short i think i stepped on my dick again. i can't take my foot off the floorboard . and yes, another citation.
