check engine light
check engine light
today i noticed that my check engine light is on..no problems with the car and I'm wondering if it automatically goes on after 7500 miles when you have a scheduled maintenance until you get it serviced? i put on an adapter and cone filter today and i noticed after that..but i dont think i could have messed anything up there..it's just take out the airbox replace with filter plug back in..anyways any feedback would be great thanx
you need to pull out the code, look if you installed corectly if there are no holes left and seals right, check the gas cap (3-4clicks) reset the battery, unplug negative - for 1min and reconnect and see if it comes up again. If it does get the code fix the problem.
good luck

I'm willing to bet that it is the new filter you put on your car. The EVO's MAF does not work well with aftermarket intakes unless you have some sort of tuning to back it up. My suggestion is to take the new cone filter off until you get tuned or just get a K&N drop in filter.
You will probably have one of these codes come up:
DTC P0101: Volume Airflow Circuit Range/Performance Problem
DTC P0102: Volume Airflow Circuit Low Input

I got the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light while on a roadtrip to OKLA. Pulled into a Mitsu dealer and they pulled up the code. Apparently, the engine "misfired" and that caused the light to come on. They were able to tell me the rpm, speed and gear I was in at the time it happened. When the light first came on, the car was bucking and sputtering in lower gears, but cruised just fine at 75-80 mph in 5th. They reset the code and I haven't had probs since. I attributed it to the intake modifications I had made - K&N drop in and air cleaner cover removed.
