Because they are not legal here in the U.S. Mitsubish would have had to certify them with the DOT in order to make that happen and for a 1000 car run it doesn't make financial sense. That and the headlights are for a right-hand drive Evo which means the beam patttern is different from our left hand drive Evo.

other vehicles whose manufacturers deemed it appropriate to spend the extra R&D money necessary to certify their blacked out lights with the DOT. as Neil stated, Mitsubishi found it imprudent to allocate the finances necessary for such an endeavor for such a limited production.

If the mystique of the MR is wasted by the silver lights, go buy the authentic ones and replace them. By the way, the 2nd gen mitsu eclipse has blacked out headlights, don't know why they can't do it again. How does everyone know about mitsu's R&D anyway?? Someone on here work for them?

The lights you can do yourself for $50. How many Eclipses were sold? There will only be 1000 or so MRs.

So what? I would think that if there are limited production numbers on a limited edition car, they would make it a little more different than the regular evo and throw in a grand worth of MR lights. How do you guys know they aren't legal in the US. If the eclipse lights are, why wouldnt the MR lights be?? Thats the point I was making in the first place.

Dcorn.....you are missing the point bro, let it go.
Just cause mitsu has one set of eclipse blaked out lights meeting DOT approval does not mean that any black bezzled lights they want to come out with in the future is approved right off the bat.

if they are not going to have it stock then they are not going to have it stock. regardless of how many times u are asking, they are not going to change it. if u are going to get an mr then i would worry, if not, dont lose sleep over it.

How do you know if they are legal? Look at the light and find the DOT stamp, that tells you it is legal

What's not legal? Using right-hand drive JDM lights on a left hand drive cars and blinding on-coming traffic, because you think it looks cool.

Here in California it is also illegal to change your lights in any way, like blacking them out (sorry Noel) or putting overlays on them, so don't whine if you get a ticket because of that also.
