what's the competition? the STi? although they're classed together, fundamentally they're different cars. i'd get an MR if i could afford it.. i mean, every zine and review has praised the 6-speed's gearing and the re-worked suspension. looking at the numbers alone, i imagine that the price is justified. you guys are looking at the MR from a standpoint of a regular Evo that you could just modify yourself for a lot cheaper, but you've got to imagine anything coming from the factory is going to have a bit of a ballooned price. $35k ridiculous? might as well say GSR with SSL package is ridiculous, but otherwise it's alright.. in which case you should just buy the GSR or RS, like I'm doing and stop *****ing and trying to bring down this amazing car that Mitsu has brought over to us. Even hyundai, cheap of the cheap cars charges over a G for a 6 speed over their 5 speed. On top of that, you're talking about new shocks.
You are totally clueless.
The closest competition would be the other Evos and the STi.
How are the STi and the Evo fundamentally different? Both turbo AWD 4 door cars with big spoilers. Both cars go head-to-head. The STi can be had for invoice at about $30.5k or so. That makes it $5k cheaper than the Evo and the performance is so close that you wouldnt notice much of a difference. Most people wouldnt even notice the performance difference between the GSR and the MR, I'll bet.
The MR is an amazing car, I agree, but at the price of $35k, there are other cars that present much better value like the RS, GSR and the STI.
Mitsu rocks for bringing over the MR but they screwed up by pricing it too high.
It should have been about $32k.
Remember that components cost a whole lot less when the manufacturer buys them.

the MR package also brings a boost gauge kit that also has volts and oil temp if im not mistaken. Ive been waiting for the MR and i really don't want the factory gauges, i would rather go aftermarket (Defi). Wish Mitsu made the MR package an option, and made the vortex generators std for the 34k price.
They both have big spoilers, have AWD and are 4 doors so they are fundamentally the same? I was thinking along the lines that one is a 2.5L boxer engine with the Subie AWD system whereas the Evo uses a 2.0L and a differently configured AWD system.
Should mitsu have sold it for less? I have a feeling that people will buy them all, which means that Mitsu chose a price that people were willing to pay for the limited car. Remember, when there is a product that is released in limited numbers and is in demand, it's a sellers' market. Stop complaining if you think it's so damned expensive and just do what I'm doing and buy the GSR or RS.
