MR MSRP = $35,986 per my dealer

My dealer called today with an exact MSRP for the MR they're getting.
Sticker is $35,986 including destination, etc. He said their asking price would be $1,000 over that, or $36,986. Tax on that figure would be $2,589 (7% here), so the total "out the door" amount would be an impressive $39,575.
Gotta say, at well over $5,000 less than that out the door, the 05 STi looks like an awfully good deal (brand loyalty nothwithstanding).
So, who here is changing their mind on their deposit?

thats certainley swinging my vote over to the STI, the MR is a sweet car but seems over priced for a 4-cylinder car. My threshold was 35k and even if they were to give at msrp 36k seems high

Not to sound disloyal to the mighty evo following, but I did stop by and look at a Black w/gold wheels STI just the other day (seeing as how my evo is in the shop for transfer case replacement --- and I was somewhat disenchanted at that point), and I must say: I couldn't help but do the math on the payments!
After all, I AM a Petter Solberg fan.

If you do get one please post up a scan of it. Anyways, even if it is that much, why would you guys just go for the Subaru instead... why not go for a 05 GSR or RS?
it's not just around 39g's man.....add your brand new clutch you have to buy...then add new tires within a couple of months..and then finally the best part...they will denie your warranty!!!!! hurray mit i guess you guys do want this car limited...limited to the mit dealerships cause no one can afford it.

I understand if you don't want to mod (whether it's to try and keep your warrenty or to have improved performance in stock class racing like the scca). But, I can't believe everyone is in that boat. Don't get me wrong, I also understand being disapointed that the MR is (or seems or whatever) overpriced, but why does that leave the next choice as the 05 sti? Is it because of that R&T (or was it C&D... I forget) article that compared the MR to the sti where they said they barely liked the MR better?
I'm not hatin, I was just wondering what people's reasoning is.
If you want to verify what I've been told, call the salesman yourself: David Moore at Performance Mitsubishi, 513-707-5600. I've no reason to lie or make crap up -- that benefits no one. If you *do* call him, ask him where/how he got that figure...I forgot to ask that question when I talked to him (was too much in a hurry to post here).
