Proper Break in for MR
Proper Break in for MR
Hey, I was wondering what you guys think about the proper way to break in the MR, and when the first oil change should be performed, I just picked up my car yesterday.
Thanks
Thanks
It is a very controversial subject but I know a lot of people who swear by the general break in advice outlined on the following web site. Just to be safe, I changed my oil and filter at 600 which was the first time I had access to a lift.

Vegetable oil are you nuts? If anything if your not going to use the Mobile one. Go with convential regular oil for the break in. There has been many post's about proper break in I would suggest reading them to get your own opinion.
Lol, with my '03 I got my dealership to change my oil at the first 1000 miles using my pitpass. Mitsubishi is the worst corporation ever, I think Opra and Dr. Phil secretly run it. I had to beg the dealership to change my oil at 1k even though it was going to use up one of my pit passes that I payed for and would be no cost to them. I went easy on mine for the first 1k but I'm overly cautious. Just curious, why would anyone willingly work for this company. Just today I was screamed at by two service employees over the phone for asking about warranty work.

Me and my fiance did the same thing with our Evo's. We didn't take our Evo's over 5000rpms for the first 1000 miles...changed the oil, and then got on it.

I got about 270 on it righ now been stayin below 4k rpm most of them time an occasional up to 5k rpm, 1/2 throttle most of the time, might put the petal to metal occasional but still stayin under 5k rpm. As for oil im just leavin in the synthetic oil probably change oil around 600miles or 1k havn't decided yet...
I think once I hit 1000miles Im going to start throwing in couple redlines here n there

600 miles ; as it says in the owners manual for an evo 8
does it say the same in the mr manual?
im going with no boost for first 50 miles, then low boost no more than 4k rpm for first 500 miles, change oil, then do some 4-5 rpm high boost to 1500, change oil and drive as you want, dont forget its not always geared at the engine the first 500 miles of a break in but the brakes and the clutch need it too
just read that article that ChrisSB linked to above. that's pretty much the same thing my brother in-law told me after he got done ripping around in my S4 when i first got it. i can't say i've driven my MR as hard as that yet, but i've taken it up between 5k and 6k a few times.
i think varying your speed and not driving in stop'n'go traffic are big ones. changing to oil early after the break-in is good too.

the dealership i used to work at had a "test drive" EVO... the miles were racked up close to 2,000... now, this thing was driven to hell and back. the only thing that confused me was the fact that it drove better than any EVO i've ever been in.
When I bought my truck, I changed the oil @ 500 miles (end of break in), then I took it for a real drive. I drove reallyslow for the first 500 though. Since I changed it myself, I could see all the metal particals that were stuck to my oil change plug (magnetized) THe next 2 changes there were significatley less metal.
