The obvious trouble with the evo X
Too bad this seems not to be obvious to the people at Mitsubishi. What makes an Evo, an Evo? My answer: driving purity. So what if it has 4 doors, is a front engine car, has AWD and can seat 5? Somehow they've gotten the driving precision and unity of purpose down so well that in the recent issue of compact car they compare the evo to the 1900 pound midengine rwd lotus Elise. That is an incredible compliment to the driving experience offered by the Evo. You can NOT make the evo significantly more comfortable, larger, or heavier and accomplish the same feat. For this reason a VW R32 would NEVER be compared to an Elise. However, it seems Mitsubishi is hinting that the Evo X will be smoother, quieter, and have a softer ride etc and provides that VW as an example of the direction that the evo will take (see Car and Driver). To me, the hard core aspect of the Evo is the only thing that draws me. If it were toned down at all, I'd get a VW or an STI. The point is that the evo is a fundamentally different product than the VW in purpose. It's the difference between a sports car and a GT car. Why enter a crowded market place and abandon the current audience when the evo's current niche has little competition? I just hope the evo IX isn't the last real evo and that won't be judged by lap times and quarter miles.
Not to be a jerk to mitsu but your right. Every evo has been hard core. And mitsu know how to do something real good a thats messing up the cars that sell good and that are special . Eclipse GSX AWD turbo for instence i didnt like them byt a lot of people did and to the new style of it I hate it . Im waiting for mitsu to make the evo fwd drive now=(

You have seen one little blurb, a couple of artist renditions of possible prototypes and you already know the "obvious trouble" with a car that hasn't been released yet? Whatever happened to waiting until the actual product was released before making that conclusion? Forget faith in a company for knowing a market it has dominated for years, how about just plain old patience? I know "they said" the American Evo and the JDM evo will evolve differently, but it hasn't happened yet. If ever, not as long as the car receives the praise that it does. But if enough people keep saying how much they hate the low rent interior, start begging for things like climate control/ naviagtion, better sound systems and more luxury appointments, I'm sure they'll make those changes to accomodate those buyers.
I don't see how you came up with this consclusion. This car hasn't even been released yet and there aren't any definite details on the Evo X except for the styling. It's like judging a book by its cover and the book hasn't even been written yet.
We already know that Mitsu said that the US and JDM Evo's are going to evovle differently but that still hasn't happened. The only thing different that we don't have on the US cars is the AYC. I think that the US Evo's are going to evolve along with the JDM Evo's and the only difference between those two would be something like the AYC we aren't getting.
Stop being so pestimistic!!

Did she mention the plans for this Sat.? No, well she bought this strap-on and..........
lol, maybe I sound like chicken little ("the sky is falling"), but pointing at a R32 is like a engineer assigned to the Porsche GT3 pointing to an M3. The Porsche GT3 community freaks out when they hear that stability management might be on the next car. Just a rumor and you'll hear outraged posts. The reason they do this is that there is only maybe 1000 GT3s in the US and a large group of them are track junkies who know that they don't have many options when it comes to honed pure track cars. Maybe there are so many Evo buyers that many of them don't buy the evo for the same reasons as the evo buyers who track their cars often. However I know the track guys didn't buy one because they are anything like an R32. A product like an Evo comes out of a team that has a very particular goal and singular purpose. To me the designers should be saying, think EVO, but even faster more powerful and sharper (the same direction, but further in that direction.) I get worried when they talk about new directions and softer rides because that's not going to be an evo and an evo is a very rare thing indeed.

True !anyway back on topic, I think yargk is just trying to point this out early in hopes that mitsu reads this board and will know our opinion... BEFORE the car is built and we cant do anything about it ... my 2 cents
