JDM Mag: Future STi & Evo
The key thing I'm concerned about over the looks is what's the powerplant gonna be like. I've heard it'll have an iron sleeved aluminum block, as big as 2.4L (which means lower revs generally) MIVEC, and direct injection. If the 4G63 is no more, it'll take some time to develop mods and such for this all new powerplant. Just think, we've had the 4G63 in the U.S. for almost 17 years and thanks to Dave. Buschur and a few others we've been developing mods for these since 91-92. We've come a long way but it might suck starting over.

No offense, but I'm not here for the looks - or I'd have bought a G35 coupe a long time ago!!!!!
I am also willing to bet $$$ that all the complainers will be begging for it when the performance #'s are rolled out!

I'm sure if you went back 15 years and saw a picture of 90% of the attractive cars now, you'd say they were all ugly. It just seems like car makers are getting more radical and liberal about the design choices.

The X will be the best looking EVO ever made IMO. Sorry to say, if Mitsu kept it looking like yours, I don't think they'd stay in business much longer. They are hanging on by the slimmest of threads right now... they make GM and VW look profitable by comparison.
Doesn't appear to be enough performance buffs out there to keep sales up without also wooing enthusiasts also interested in a cars looks and finish. I'd bet, and it looks like Mitsu is betting, that for every current regular Lancer or EVO owner like you that prefers their cars' mostly entry-level looking econobox looks with their current interiors, that there will be many more like me that will take your place in line for the new X and even will be willing to pay a couple of thousand more for one, with its looks and interior finish that will finally complement the cars awesome performance, not detract from it.
When the head Mitsu designer (and most every magazine out there) can publicly state that with the X Mitsu will try to appeal to people "who have never tried it because the car is so ugly..." that kind of tells me Mitsu might have a future after all. This is even more telling that they could make remarks like that while they are just starting to sell the IX ! Like the Car magazine article said, "Mitsubishi's salesmen around the world are pacing the floors of their empty showrooms now, waiting for these cars to arrive..." The demand for the new Lancer and EVO with these looks, and the vastly improved interior will be the greatest Mitsubishi has every experienced. Place your bets now.
Perhaps Mitsu should give the car a different name than the great EVO name... to signify this is a totally new car. (maybe "REV" for Revolution... indicating a much more dramatic change than Evolution.
