What direction should Mitsubishi focus on for the future?

The Lancer is a great looking econocar, and a new version will arrive in 2008. It looks a whole lot better then the Neon which was cancelled I am sure you have heard.

where could we see pics of the new Lancer?
There are several things Mitsu needs to do. There isn't that magic one thing you do to make things all come together.
Mitsu's name is tarnished...period. With the all the bad press they have got in the past couple years. That is the very first thing they need to rid themselves of. And...as much as I love the Mitsu logo...it probably needs to go. Think about it. Get a new fresh logo out there and people will ask about the company (i.e. "what kind of car is that"). Which drives new interest. I know it is little...but companies do this kind of stuff for a reason.
They need to find their niche in the market. They never have done that. Like when Kia first came out. They were known as the cheap affordable car with a big warranty. Well...despite the fact that Kia is not cheap anymore (30,000 grand for a mini van is not cheap). They still have that image planted in the public mindset and that gets people in the door.
Mitsu is trying to salvage something that never existed(here in America anyway), a good soild car company. Sure, I believe their cars are just as reliable if not more reliable than Honda and Toyota. But, the public doesn't know that, and that is what Mitsu needs to convince them to believe. America for the most part is a boring place to buy a car. Why? Cause that is what sells. Just look at the Toyota and Honda line-up of cars. They are booooorrrrrriiiiinng. Honda is better that Toyota with cars like the s2000 and Civic Si. But, Toyota's line-up is drab if you ask me. But it sells!!! They sell off the notion that they are reliable and get good mileage. Which is very important to the public. Mitsu trys to convey to the public that they have cool cars. Most of their commericals have very little to do with the car. Yes, they have got better over that past 2-3 years...but they still need some work.
This is just a few things addressed in a long line crap that Mitsu needs to get cleaned up.
But to sum up what I think. Mitsu needs to scrap their whole image and start over from the begining. They need to get the public mindset about them changed....period. Before they waste away.

I think it will take a long time to re establish their image, but if they come out with a new logo or name, people will ask, who is that made by? Once they find out by Mitsubishi, and they will, that would ruin any name or logo change. People won't be fooled and will probably be put off even more because they would feel like they are being tricked.
The name Mitsubishi, means three diamonds, so there's not much they can change their logo to, that wouldn't be recognizable. Its the oldest Japanese car company/brand, they would be way to proud to ditch it. They are just going to have to be patient and rebuild

IMO, they need to stop making new cars. make cars that are reliable and dependant. no need to fully devote themselves in the performance market as thats not a big customer base for them. think of this. if the evo had a better interior quaility more ppl will buy the car not just gear heads. which makes me think the sti limited will be a hit, since ppl here in the us wants the top of the line, and doesnt want a pocket rocket.

It doesn't really seem like Mitsubishi wants to expand like Toyota and sell hella cars. Does it look like Mitsu is trying to make cars to get people form Point A to Point B? Do they advertise that? Their commercials are all about looks, power, value, and "an exhilirating driving experience" that's why they had that slogan in the 90's saying "wake up and drive". Might sound stupid but I think they are trying to become more "exclusive" in a way. I mean how many
dealerships do you see, and compare that number to how many Toyota dealerships in your area. But IMO I think Mitsu should stop building cars in US and just import their other cas from JP like the Colt, Evo Wagon, and the Airtrk Turbo-R. The cars built here are hella bloated and ugly smh..Sure they don't sell that bad but to me the 04-up 4cyl Galant is pretty dull, even if they added MIVEC. The V6 is strong and all, but way too much torque steer, and did you see how heavy it is?!? Also, they're discontinuing the Montero due to weak sales, and you know why they have weak sales? BECAUSE THE FREAKING 4700lbs SUV HAS ONLY A 215hp V6!! DAMN THEY SHOULD AT LEAST COME OUT WITH A V8 OR A DIESEL..Omg some of the people at Mitsu are hella stupid

-Get rid of the Diamante, the SUVs, the economy cars, and the family version of the Galant.
-Re-introduce the Galant, but only in one version and that's the VR4 version. MIVEC Turbocharged V6/AWD/$30,000-$40,000/300HP+/5-Speed Automatic and 6-Speed Manual/Aggressive styling andawesome interior/Updated Interior/Competition- G35, 3 Series, and IS350
-Re-introduce the 3000GT (Most likely a new name). V8 Power/AWD/$40,000-$50,000/400HP+/6-Speed Manual/Aggresive styling/3400-3500Lbs/Competition- C6 Corvette and Porsche 911.
-Continue to build and improve the EVO
. They are not ferrari, lamborghini, or even porsche, they just cannot do it. While this post is a year old, thank god your not a mitsu exec. I would be getting warranty work for my ralliart by DCX right now.
